the pond is so small that I have to slow down to turn
Very nice looking boat. But I'm with Big Boys Toys, regardless to the size of the pond it does look like it is digging in and struggling to turn. I would think it shouldn't be struggling to turn at any speed, fast or slow.

I would say this boat made of wood so it's quite heavy in comparison with other plastic boats.
In static state, the boat quite sink in water. When it runs with a certain speed, the water pressure will lift the whole boat up. When I turned at a corner I had to significant reduce the speed (otherwise it will crash the pond's bank), reducing the water pressure too -> the boat sink down.
That's the mechanism of the real boat too.
