After a few hours driving on Sunday at the Wynnum BMX track, my Savage
rolled away with the following damage 1x 13 tooth bevel (front),
something broken in the rear diff centre (spider gears?), one way
bearing, a big leak from the front of the head, 1x stock body and
snapped front and rear alloy skid plates.

It'll be a while before I get this Savage up running again.

I was having problems with the Savage running hot and leaning out -
being hard to start, until Dan noticed fuel leaking from the front of
the head. We tightened it down and it seemed to run ok, but it had been
running hot for a while...

Well the alloy skids were a 'hop up' and I'll be going back to stock
plastic skids now, and diff parts are diff parts, I'm not aware of
anything beyond the 4 spider gear mod (which I was running) for the
diffs. (I'm not buying alloy cups).

Enginewise I'm going to be keeping the S25 for as long as I can. I'm
still getting good compression, and I can't afford a .26, .27 or a .28
just yet... Got 1:1 expenses I've got to sort out first, and I need to
spend more time studying for upcoming examinations.

Yeah... so I'm finding out, a BMX track and big air time will do that to your savvy!

But was it at least fun while it was running?

It's not really that much damage. Savage's seemed to be designed for
punishment, and it has to be said that all of my suspension arms/shock
towers/main chassis plates have never given me trouble at all.

Jerrah,

Savages use the same diffs as 1/8th scale buggies, so some of the ofna or kyosho kanai diffs will work, although will need a bit of shimming. Possibly will dropright in though..

Also, some of the ofna buggies use up to 8 spider gears, so thats insane for a savage. Theres also Torsen diffs that can be used although i hear their rather expensive but pretty much indestructable.

Read that post on www.savage-central.com that Moldymarvin did about the twin sideways picco engines, he used either a Buggy or a Torsen diff in his savage.

Such as these Kyosho bits?

And this case?

I can't see how using a Buggy diff would be any better than using a
Savage specific diff - unless it's made of stronger materials?

Speaking of which - do you think this Ofna diff kit would work in the Savage? It comes complete with slotted cross pins, spider gears, cups etc...

I have no idea what the specifications of the Savage diffs are - but

I some how managed to strip my brand new robinson racing spur steel
spur gear. I think I will send it back to Tower, Im wondering if some
one in the Robinson Racing Factroy forgot to harden my spur.. apart
from that I came away from the 3 hour session unscathed , although my
body is a little worse for wear, owell, time for a new one. Will post
pics a bit later tonight.

Oh, on the topic of saftey some wally turned up to the track with a
T_Maxx and just turned his radio gear on taking control of Jerrah's
savage and nearly spearing it into a bunch of kids and their mum (yummy
mummy) ...... I see two things wrong here, old mate didnt ensure
everyone was on seperate frequencies and the mother of the kids seemed
oblivious to the fact that standing at the end of the R/C car straight
might endanger herself and her kids ........

regards
