ok.. ive replaced the rear cover plate for my engine (which the rotostart sits too).. and now i have another problem...

when i screw the rotostart backplate onto the eninge coverplate.. not even that hard...

the rotostart siezes up.. and i cant spin the rotostart (by hand)....
usually it will spin freely one direction, and move the engine in the
other..

this only happens when the screws are firm.. not to firm though..

i loosen them a little.. and the problem is gone.. i can start my car
(still need 1 extra screw which skidd's bringing on sunday!!.. thanks
pal! ..... but isnt a loose rotostart what broke my cover plate!!.. i
dont get it... i must be missing some washers / shims or something..

coz the middlemost gear on the rotostart, when tightened.. it touches
the backplate.. HMMMM!... ive tried reversing the gear inside.. coz one
side is bigger then the other.. but that didnt help.. it didnt even fit
in the rotostart case!

DAMN rotostart... too many problems.. charge the battery, and i hate when it dies when ur showing some1
...

Final verdict.. im getting rid of it eventually..

What Pullstart is the best to get.. my 1 way bearing is fine.. so i wont need that

Cheers!

i can have a look on sunday and compare it to mine. Im sure its an easy fix
. AS far as a pull start i would just get the stock 21BB pullstart for the s-25. I never had a prob with mine and its still going strong

I don't know the exact cause of your problem but it sounds like you
could get some small washers and place them between the backplate and
the rotostart. You'd then want to probably seal the gap slighly so you
don't get dust going into your one way bearing directly, but at least
it'd give some drainage for that oil that leaks out of the S25...

WHEN</span> I finally install my WASP</span> into the Savage</span>
(hopefully this weekend if I get time now the TXT-1 is almost
finished)I'm planning on trialling the pullstart to see how I like it.
If it's not for me I'll go back to the Rotostart. Has anyone had any
problems with the stock pullstarts on the Picco's? I thought people
broke pullstart cords?

the stock picco/wasp pull start is a POS!. Mine broke on second tank and i was heating the block with hairdryer, loosening glow plug and small pulls. It still broke. Everyones that i know has broken within 5 tanks. If you want to go pull start get the megatech, if you go roto just get a 1/10th wheel hex

I know about the wheel hex with the roto start... What's better about the Megatech pull start? Thicker rope?

When i broke my pull, I went to the LHS (I was in a rush) I took my engine and found a non branded pull start that is IDENTICAL to the hpi part and only cost me $5 bux. They also had the HPI one for $70 i think...

Ive pulled apart and inspected both the picco and megatech pullstart and honestly cant see any significant difference. I can only think its the quality of the plactic used cos the stock picco plastic hub breaks very easy. My plastic hub broke so i put a HPI hub in there. Then the spring snapped, so i bent a new end on the spring and continued to use it. Then the cord snapped and i replaced it with a very thick nylon cord but cos of its thichness couldnt get much length but it worked. When the handle melted to the engine head i cracked the sh*ts and got the megatech pull start and never had a problen again

ok guys..

bad news.. my savvy probably wont be able to make it on sunday.. but ill still make an appearance..

im pretty sure my 1 way is gone.. it just spins freely with the
rotostart.. but when i take rotostart off.. it seems to grip.. but
mabey not at rotostart speeds!..

so i think i need a one way bearing, and a pullstart before i go again!!!!!

anyone selling a pullstart /and or/ one way bearing.. that i could buy on sunday?

ive tried to clean it with a cloth.. it gripped for 1 start.. then no more!

my oneway does the same thing. Its not cracked it just gets alot of oil over it. I can still get it to start gust from a lot of short pushes. Degrease the bearing and then try. a cloth wont do much. I know skidd has a spare one way bearing he may sell, but youll have to ask him

ok.. ive had a very close examination (5x zoom on a microscope) of the one way.. and i temporaraly fixed it..

one of the inner cylinder rods, the casing around it was cracked, causing one of the rods to become dislodged....

my fix... i removed the one rod.. and now its gripping again.. i only
tried twice.. and it worked... i think it'll work for sunday....
hopefully.. and if not.. then ill spectate with my video camera!

i think im gonna have to make an order from SC, thats if dad lets me
use his credit card again (doubt it).. or ill get some 1 else to get
them, and i pay cash

i need :

Pull start...

One way bearing

ofna blue linkage

hayz dual tank ???

deflector (exaust)..

and shims

Fire,

Mate whatever you do bring you savvy and your tools on Sunday... believe me between us all we will find your problem and get you back on the track.

I carry spare one-ways and I also have a spare (brand new, never used pull start). Personally I'd rather see you get the rotostart up and running... I know that after thinking about the issues that Husky is having with his slipping some times we got to thinking the issue was the fact that there appeared to be no oil 'O' ring on the back of the Fantom.... this appears to be what it contaminating the one-way.

Either way mate, bring all your stuff and we'll see ya right.

Mate if it's slipping then it's not OK. You'll probably find... like the post above, that you are getting oil contaminating your one-way. Some good quality electrical contact cleaner should see you right again. At least for a little while.

after stripping down the fantom ive realised it isnt missing an o ring. I tried to put the 21BB oring in and it is way too wide. It would have had to be a very thin oring for the fantom. So basically there isnt supposed to be one on the fantom.

Fire, as skidd said bring all your stuff and we will get you rinning

BTW is it just me or is this site very very very very very very slow today

It seems to help for a little while. My understanding is the best thing to use is 'electrical contact cleaner' as it doesn't leave an oil film like some degreasers can.

Having said that... the degreaser can sometimes clean away the excessive oil that is stopping the one-wat from working properly.

Of course this is just my understanding and I am in no way the expert in these matters... still learning as I go.
