Hi, last weekend I had my rotostart one way bearing turn into a two way bearing - and I was curious to how it worked.

I found this site this morning and I thought others may be interested:

One way bearing explanation!

Dirt or grease stops it working... just flush & degrease the sucker.

I'll have to try that - visibly the bearing looks fine - it may still
be fine. Thanks Zoomer! Anything you'd recommend for the flush? Kerro?
I read somewhere that you should lubricate them with sewing
machine oil?

I just use "motor spray" aka elec contact cleaner in a aerosol can. Best degreaser* available, in a pressure pack - can't ask for anything more.

(* works even on skin.
Dries out your skin so bad no moisturiser will repair it hehe. I sometimes have an 80yo's hands.)

Don't bother lubricating it, your engine probably leaks enough oil via the back to cause the problem in the first place.

You don't have to totally degrease it, just enough to get it gripping again.

(Same drama when a pullstart won't grab the shaft when you tug.)
