I have just ordered new servos for the Savage and thought I would share the details... after all, that's what it is all about isn't it.

The servos are the new Hitec - Digital -Coreless ones. High torque for the steering and high speed for better throttle response.

High Torque - Hitec HS-5945MG
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?&I=LXUZ86
SPECS: Speed: 0.16 sec/60 degrees at 4.8V
Speed: 0.13 sec/60 degrees at 6.0V
Torque: 152.75 oz/in at 4.8V (9.6 kg/cm)
Torque: 180.53 oz/in at 6.0V (11.4 kg/cm)

High Speed - Hitec HS-5925MG
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?&I=LXUZ83
SPECS: Speed: 0.1 sec/60 degrees at 4.8V
Speed: .08 sec/60 degrees at 6V
Torque: 102.7 oz/in at 4.8V
Torque: 127.7 oz/in at 6V

Apart from them having amazing torque and speed ratings, the digital technology makes them respone quicker, and makes them fully programmable using this:

Hitec HFP-10 Servo Tester/Programmer

Using this little baby, you can edit end point position, adjust centre position and the best part, set a failsafe position. No more failsafe taking up space in the radio box.

The investment in servos and programmer is not small, but 180oz/in of torque, fast response, steering servo saver mod and Big Joe combo was just too good to pass up. The fact that I can remove the failsafe was also good. Having already sold the Hitec 645 and Ofna Micro Failsafe to a mate, I have recouped some of the outgoings.

Ok, You crazy.

They sound torquey enough to armwrestle with.
Probably don't even be tempted trying, could rip your shoulder clean out of socket.

Jono,

My wife has just gone to the UK for 2.5 weeks to visit her sister, left me at home with the 3 boys... I think that is compensation enough. Not to mention what she will no doubt spend while she is there.

I am running a Futaba 3PDF TX with R133F RX. The guys at Hitec Support reckon that they will work beautifully together with no lose of functionality. That said, I would think that if you had one of the new High Rate TX RX combos designed specifically for Digital Servos, the speed of response would be better.
