Since the 2.5R decided to die on me the other day I went hunting for engine replacements. (All prices are USD)

The shortlist was an OS .21 VSPEC, an OS .18TZ and the Sirio .23

I was really keen on the VSPEC as it would have ridiculous power and
was relatively cheap (compared to the sirio .23) @ 235 on ebay.
However the downsides were I needed too many extras to get it to work
effectively. This would have included a RD racing bump box @
129.99, a Qoncepts big block kit @ 88.95, clutch shoes and springs, A
werks clutch @ 64.95 and probably many broken parts.

The sirio .23 just ended up being a rip off of an engine @ 304.

So the choice was made for a pull start .18 TZ. This is the new puppy from OS and has 10% more power than the TM.

Only place i could find it was tower, so i ordered the engine, a clutch
nut and an exhaust which was recommended from the traxxas forums.
I also managed to get 25 bucks off in one of their deals, which
basically meant free shipping.

I have only heard good things about the .18TZ. It apparently
dyno'd 2.3hp, will outrun the sirio and use less fuel doing so.

On another note i found hobbieguyrc from ebay to have awesome shipping
rates @ 6 bucks!!! None of this 16.45 crap. And a guy by
the name of walawala_com who has good prices on glowplugs and an
assortment of parts for japanese RC. So if you are struggling to
find a part i suggest look up his shop.

Will keep you posted with pics and vids when all the stuff comes in and i give it a run

I see the V-Spec would be fastest of the engines....

As i can see the V-Spec is more powerful then the .18TZ, Maybe not as
torquie as the Siro .23, but im pretty sure it will rev it out

The V-Spec has the same great bottom end as the VB01, and a bigger top
end, OS Claims 2.7BHP...but Dynos say 3+.... I belive you only need a
different engine mount for the .21! Only downside it runs Turbo plugs,
and engine that use turbo plugs are really finky on what plug you
use...its its best to use teh one that comes with it and reoplace it
with teh same one. BUT Turbos to give better top end, AND you get rid
of that gasket once and for all!

Dude get either of the os engines. These engines rip, i've just recieved my savage with one and all i can say it flies. Will easily beat my old s25. heaps of top end power and excellent punch off the line. You will not be dissapointed

Ok thanks for the replies guys.

First and foremost was price consideration. If you guys wanted to
chip in the extra 300-400 or so USD to get the vspec and associated
parts i will happily put that in my revo.

Hmmm I thought you wouldn't

For the Vspec, yes i know it is an awesome engine, I needed a lot of extra stuff.

This includes (again, all USD)

Vspec engine 200-250 ebay

RD racing products starter box 129.99 + 40 postage

qoncepts big block kit 88.95 ?? postage

Werks 4 shoe clutch 64.99 ?? postage

Basically it adds up.

For the OS .18TZ I ordered

Engine 209.99

Clutch nut 4.99

Exhaust 11.99

New Era Racing engine mount 19.95

I ordered 2 engine mounts cause i seem to break these when REVO lands upside down

Also you don't really need the new era engine mounts to fit the
TZ. It will fit on the stock mounts but the bottom cooling fins
need to be dremel'd off. My stock engine mount atm is already
cracked so i figured i would change to the new one when the engine
arrives.

Oh btw if you wanted less hassle and non pull start. The OS .18TM
will bolt directly onto the revo. You can even use the easy
start. But that engine is older than the TZ so i figured i would
go with the new and improved.

I also picked up my OS p3 turbo plugs up for 5.40 USD each.

Still pricey but i bet they won't be any cheaper here.

I have one in my Hyper 7 PBS Pro and it screams.
It has so much torque it lights up all 4 wheels with road tires on bitumen!!!
I can get a pull start for $269 plus the engine mount for about $40US.

Not sure what's involved in fitting it though.

Is the OS.18TZ the On-Road Engine or for Off-Road?
I thought i read it is for On-Road.
Does it pull wheelies on demand?

Love the Hummer Shell too Mighty Revo!!!
I just picked up my Crowd Pleazer 2.0 shell today and painted it tonight.
I will cut it and fit it tomorrow.Edited by: OzBlueRevo

OzBlue why not give the V-Spec a go....

and that 2.4hp for the V-spec is under-rated..its supposly dyno'ed up somewhere in the 3.0 renge.

V spec rev atleast another 2~3k more that that Hyper, coes with better
carb, and power should kick in faster at 33k(clamied 2.4hp @33k) but
then again its a while extra 100us then you need to get a starter
box...can get for about 100 aussie

the Sirio engines arent cheap for a reason. You get what you pay for. If you shop arround you can pick one up for $450 (mostly $490)in Australia, not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

the OS engines are great, always respected them, very consitant. but the Sirio 23 is built FOR the REVO, If you lie in sydney I suggest you go to RC hobbies in Petersham and ask them to show you theirs. The truck would do backflips if not for the rear training wheel.

The V-spec can be used on and offroad. I have seen a few being run in
1/8th buggies and all I can say is the're up there with the P5's, RBWS7,
C5's etc etc.

I thought for a bloke with a 3PK the Vspec and other bits would have
been short change!!!

I'm only too keen to see some movies of a Vspec powered Revo - I
know it would definatly make me think twice for getting out of the
hobby

EDIT: Shrink them movies down buddy - 5.4 meg for a mere 9 seconds
of footage is craaaaaaaazy

The Sirio S.23RE has more power than any other .21 engine for the money by far. Also if you want a .21 then the Sirio.21 Bk Evo IIKanai is by far the best you can get for the money as the S.23RE is actually a medium block and desingned especially for the T-MaxxS.23TX) and Revo. Also the Kanai won the worlds so need you say more. One thing about sirio engines is they are winning worlds in almost every class.
For example the 1/10th on-road Sirio has 8 out of 10 of the top ten placings
and that includes the top 5. Not bad hey for an engine half or less the price of a JP Black and similar price to an OS.
Check them out and see what i mean: http://www.star-motor.com/
Go to the Races section for their titles in the worlds and check out the tuning guide and watch the full lap in the Off-Road Section inthe Extras pageif you have broadband and crank up the sound, they are wicked!

I will have about 10+ Sirio engines by next weekend if they arrive by then so ifanyone isinterested in one let me know as i am taking orders for those interested in a Sirio S.23RE/TX(comes with engine mount, header and springs)and the Sirio.21 Bk Evo II. I will also know if i can get the S.12's for the 1/10th touring and the S.27 Pro (these are insane for power and torque with incredibly high revs)for the Monster Trucks like the Savage, Losi LST, TT MTA4etc. These engines will go really quickly if i advertise them on eBay so please let me know.

The S.23REis rated at 3.1H.P. and 41,500rpm which is more than the V-Spec as per OSEngines.com :-

SPECIFICATIONS
Stock Number:
OSMG2068
Displacement: .21 cu in (3.5cc)
Bore: 0.653 in (16.6mm)
Stroke: 0.629 in (16.0mm)
Practical RPM: 3,000-40,000
Output: 2.5 hp @ 33,000 rpm
Weight (w/o muffler): 12.7 oz (360g)
Includes: TP-3 glow plug, 8mm and 9mm carb restrictors, exhaust seal and dust cap set
Requires: Glow fuel, tuned pipe and manifold.

This engine still looks really sweet though so please don't mis-understand me. If i couldn't get a Sirio i would get one of these.

30Us for the engine mount, allows all .21 engines, plus you can reuse the stock header. There's someone on the traxxas forum, with pics
