Pretty much got down to a choice between the pro4 and the xray t1
fk
So far it is a pretty hard choice, and i am weighing up pros and cons
of each
HPI PRO4
Pros
aluminium hinge pin mounts
shaft drive - no chewed belts
carbon reinforced plastic belts
comes with hub carriers with different caster angles
aluminium shock bodies, threaded
comes with sway bars
antidive/squat etc easily adjusted with shims
very low CoG
4 ackerman settings
Ti turnbuckles
alloy driveshafts
driven by Hara
Cons
possible chewed bevel gears
very fragile front one way, aftermarket backing plate can help
strengthen though
fragile front suspension apparantly
possible torque steer from shaft drive layout
harder to balance with battery down one side
hard to get parts for
chassis plates requre sanding and filing
dearer than xray
hex hubs have washer/spacers on them
XRAY T1 FK
Pros
chassis does not require sanding (done at factory, just needs glueing)
belt drive has no torque steer
very free drivetrain
good bearings
dust seals for ball diff
flexibility in battery placement including saddle pack
externally adjustable shocks
build quality is apparantly excellent
apparantly parts are easier to get hold of
externally adjustable diffs
spring steel is apparantly very strong
lightweight parts
antidive/squat adjusted without shims but only two positions
Cons
plastic shock bodies
no swaybars included standard
still have issues with belts and rocks damaging them though as the
diffs are open it should be less a problem than with the TA04 which
has semi enclosed gearboxes, letting rocks in but they cant get out
hudy Spring Steel driveshafts and turnbuckles heavier than
aluminium/ti/plastic parts on pro4?
changing front caster requires purchase of more hub carriers
cheaper than pro4
do you have to pull the bulkhed off the car (including suspension and
shock mount and top plate) to get a diff out?
Will add anything else to the list i can think of when i think of it/find it
Notes
I dont think the one way front diff on either car would overly suit our
tracks, would have to try but would possibly fit a ball diff in the front
in the end
