Okay, my first post on AUSRC. Hope someone out there can give me some help.

Okay, well i have a SS savage with a Picco .26 it was running fine until i attached a motor saver air filter, i also went from using 16% nitro to using 20% nitro.

Now i know that whenyou put a bigger air filter or use a higher nitro content, you should make it richer (is this correct at all?). So, anyway i made my HSN richer, becauseit kept stalling. Then iran it for a bit, and i felt the head and it was darn hot, so i stopped and let it cool down, and i adjusted the LSN, made it richer as well. This seemed to work.

After this, i went and bought an infared temp gauge to measure temps using the current configuration.

Im getting temps at the bottom of theheat sinkafter 5-7mins of flogging it hard of about 270f + or - 5 and at the top its about 220f + or - 5

But i have noticed that my low end is too rich, its very "boggy" down low.

Im also using a Nova Racing Head,

Do you think i can safely lean out the LSN needle a little bit more?

What temps are acceptable using the above combination?

Any input would be great!!

Now I am definately not the expert in this area, but my understanding is this;

You really should richen the HSN to get your running temps down to the 220F area. At full throttle running the LSN really isn't putting any fuel in so doesn't help cooling at all. Also you should be checking the engine temp with your IR temp gauge by pointing it at the area around the glow plug... that is the true engine temp.

270f is fine. It is always good to slightly richen the needles
when you change the pipe, filter, nitro etc, run it for a while and
then re tune. You should lean the LSN until the bogging goes and you
have smooth acceleration from take off. Leaning the LSN wont
affect the temps unless you leave the truck idling for ages cos once
you have it peggged at full the LSN is no longer in play, just the HSN.
I wouldn't go leaning the HSN cos ive you are getting 270f with a nova
head it is lean enough. With the LSN only turn 1/8th cos the picco/wasp
is a touchy bastard. Let us know how you go

*******, thanks for the quick reply.. I will be re testing in the morning.... I'll give you an update on how i went... What i'll do is turn inthe LSN 1/8 of a turn, and i might turn out the HSN another 1/2 turn and check the temps.. But i tell you what - while running that lean the car is SOOOOOOOO FAST, its almost uncontrollable.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just some other info that may help you help me
...

It would mainly stall when i have been floooring it hard and then let go..

Does this mean too lean on HSN?
