Hey everyone,

After getting frustrated with the cruizer
body I bought a Dodge Ram body by Dynamite. It included window
masks but no paint and peel, protective covering.

I now have beadlocks and r/c raven triple rate springs on it, an awsome combination for stability

That body will stay like that for about 30 seconds on its first run then it will end up, well worse for wear .......

Since
the cruizer body post the only new additions are the triple rate
springs, maximiser x-75 beadlocks and a HPI SS Savage Aluminium
Pipe

Despite being a Chevy fanatic I actually like the look of the full size Ram. They look just as good on the Savage as well.

I'm always impressed at peeps who can paint their own bodies for these things... I've had a few years of modelling experience but the idea of pinting an RC body still scares the bejesus out of me.

I've ordered an avalanche body from the USA and I hope I will do it justice when it comes time to painting.Edited by: Skidd

Odum,

I will tell you what scares the crap out of me - NO PAINT AND PEEL PROTECTIVE COVERING......

I look at the overspray that I always manage to obtain, and have no idea what I would do if it wasn't for the good old Paint and Peel.

How did you handle that?

Regards,

Chris

Hey,

Morphy,

no tips mate, its only the second body I have painted. The only
thing I do is clean the surface to be painted with a product called
prep wash. Its a solvent that removes finger grease, automotive spray
painters use it.

Ausrc,

to overcome the overspray I just made a lip around the edge of the
shell with plain old masking tape, about 10 mm higer than the body. I
then got some bits of newspaper and ran strips of masking tape
down the edge of the page, half on the page and half off, I then wrapped
that around the body to cover it up, this technique is used
extensively by auto spray painters ( my dad is a panelbeater ).

So from start to finish

I cut out the body, drilled all holes and made the motor and fuel tank cut outs.

I masked up everything, window masks, body stripes , aswell as body post holes and motor cut outs.

I then washed the inside of the shell with Prepwash

Then I applied the metallic purple, after all the purple was left
to dry I removed the body stripe masking tape (made by cutting a stipe
of 16mm masking tape in half ) and applied the silver. I then
removed the window masks and applied the smoke to the windows.

Removed the body mask, newspaper etc and wipe the body with prepwash and there u go, one purple dodge ram

Ausrc,

Im not sure what Odum has done, but i have the same effect on my savage by getting a big zip tie, about 5mm across and zipping(?) it around the front body post mount, then coiling the antenna wire around the long end of the zip tie. it works no worries and have had no dramas with the radio range. looks much better as you can see on the ram.

cheers,

Haydn

Foolspd33,

Im very happy with the pipe, more punch for quicker acceleration.

Ausrc,

The antenna is just hidden under the body, nothing special, poking
through the front shock tower and where ever I could place it, away
from the spur gear though. I tried to avoid and loops to avoid
frequency shift etc Its not bacle tied in place and it can be poked
through the antenna hole at anytime

regards

Now that's a nice looking body. I'm just going to have to flash up the old air gun and give these things a go.
