Its been coming for a while now, the death of my nitro star. I thought
it was going to die a slow death, loosing compression until it wouldnt
start. I took out a head shim a few bashes ago and it ran like a champ
again, although quite hot . But today, it passed away, not from lack of
compression but from a sheered crank/conrod connecting pin. I was
dissapointed it didnt even go out with a spectacular bang or smash
after a big jump. I was just running around on a big field and it all
of the sudden stopped.

Anyway here are the pics

The marks on the piston and conrod are from me and a screwdriver.

But never fear, the timing was perfect because I picked up my Fantom .27 last friday afternoon

Email him for a postage cost. I think it was only $15 US or something. I paid using paypal. He was really helpful, his name is mike and he comes highly recomended frommany on SC.The other day searching on ebay i saw these going for $ 179US same as a wasp! 99% sure that soon we will be able to swap a 28 piston and sleeve into these monsters.

Dan let us know what you think

Husky,

Im taking thursday off work to rebuild the savage and run in the new
motor. I have an assorment of heavy duty bits and pieces coming from
MRC tomorrow. You are right about the "odd" run in method for the
fantom, I hope they know what they are on about, Im kinda nervous !!!

The new run in method is easy. Believe it or not but it is easier than the old idle rich method
. Thats the best excuse to take a day off ive ever heard of

my old friends death is a picco 26

at the first tanks it ran like a devil on ice but after it kept fouling plugs. i tried 4 different fuels, changed the head , ran it rich, ran it half throttle, and many other solutions. but i never found the right one and i dont think that there is.

it always kept cutting the plug filament. i am sure i took gr8 care of it but i think it was defective.

when i opened it, i found that the crankshaft pin was ellipse shaped!

the rear engine bearingslid out when i turned the crankcase

the conrod was sort of grinded from the side
[/list]

it was a strange thing beacuse i NEVER ran it lean. and the plug will remain shiny and nice , but cut from the center. and it never foul a plug while running. i never foolded it. (you run it, stop it, let it cool, and when you plan to start it again, you'll notice the cut filament.) unbelivable? .....

8 years in RC and never met this type of problem.

Iluvoz,

that is the exact same issue I had with my fantom .27. Clean cutting
the plugs element, right at the bottom. The fillament is clean, still
nice and silver but it just keeps cutting the element. ...........

and thatz a very angry thing. cutting out plugs with no reason.

now i had put a weak 21 on my savage to make it movewhile i save $ to buy the wasp 28.

by the way. i converted my dead picco 26 to a diesel model engine.

gotta get to a test soon! hope it works fine and does not explode my savage
