Hey,

While playing with my two day old savage I went to start it again and
it wouldnt kick over with the roto start. The starter was spinning but
there was no piston action. Anyway, upon futher inspection I discoverd
that the hex nut ( not the big gear, but the hex nut that sits
inside the big gear inside the roto start ) that the roller
bearing is housed in was cracked , along its length and while the
roller bearing was gripping onto the shaft the hex nut housing
was just spinning along with the rest of the roto start, around the
roller bearing. Has anyone else has this problem ? I just used a bit of
locktight on the inside of the hex housing and pushed the roller
bearing back in. Lets hope this works.

Hi Odum

If you cant fix this problem I would be returning it to the people that sold you the Truck and asking them what warranty they offer and if there is no warranty what they are going to do to fix this small problem. Hopefully you broughtyour car in Australia so at least you wont have to wait foryour parcelto get to the States and then get it returned to you.

Odum,

Any chance you hydrolocked the engine?

The Rotostart has so much torque that if the engine get's hydrolocked the roto will crack the oneway bearing.

You will need a new oneway. As for warranty - dunno - put it down to experience. The oneway is probably about $30 and I am sure you can get one locally.

How do you used the roto? Short bursts? Never prolonged running? People talk about loosening the glowplug on the new engines as they have so much compression, however I have never done this and I think if you are carefulitcan allbe avoided. I broke in the S25 and my Wasp .26 using the roto and never had oneway dramas. You just need to watch for the signs of engine flooding and subsequent hydrolock.

time to get a new one way bearing...

Yep, you busted your one way just go to your lhs and pick up one for about $30 - $40 dollars AUS or about 15 - 25 from tower but you will have to wait about 10 days if you do air shipping. I guess it works out about the same as Aus with shipping and all that

Just pick one up from the lhs, whack it on and remember..

Short Bursts Of NO LONGER THAN 3 SECONDS and then let it off and try again.

The Alternative is... New One Way Bearing and a Pullstart and then you wont break one ways and if you look after the pullstart it wont break either.

Well Im happy to report that the loktite worked for today but
unfortunaltey on my last start it let go .... so now im off to find a
new one way. May prove harder than I may like, im currently up in
Cairns and there are only two shops that stock r/c gear and even they
have a very limited supply of gear. But yeah, I did run the roto for to
long and I possibly hydro'ed the motor...... live and learn. On the
upside, this forced downtime will give me a chance to install reverse
while I have the truck apart and im sourcing a new one way bearing !!

Thanks for your assistance !

Im pretty stoked, got my oneway today from the local toyworld for
20 bucks. I took my split one to a mate at BSC ( a bearing suppliers )
and they are seeing what can be done. He also mentioned I should use a
retaining compound to try and fix the cracked one and not the super
head stud (locktite 262) that I tried.

$20 - that's pretty sweet - oneway for the Picco is $24US + postage or $55 Aussie at the LHS.

Luckily I haven't need one ..... YET!!!!!
