hey everyone. Bare with me, this is on my phone... I figured whist we're on the lookout for a permanent place to call home, i decided to send an e.mail to the belmont range office about what is available. In my e.mail i described who we are, what we do and our plans for a professional offroad track. Today i recieved a phone call from the dude in charge and he said there will be a commitee meeting this thursday and asked me to send him some photo's of our baja's in action to present to his committee. I'll be sending a few pics later tonight. From what i understand already, belmont range is right near the gateway motorway, central to the majority of brisbane, 24 hour security with toilets. The land i've been eyeing off and possibly up for grabs is an abandoned cricket field. The only downside to this is an expensive lease but i'll wait till i get home and check my e.mail. Considering it's location and facilities, i think the belmont complex is very ideal. What does everyone think?

Already did jason :thumb: There was a number of shots I selected from Gympie, Wacol and Sydney.

I just sent off all the photo's and explained our previous events including the State of Origin and that we will be hosting round 2 as a National event with the full club sponsorship of DPS.

I would have loved to have mentioned the club feature in Racing Lines magazine however it would have been misleading as it doesn't reference QORLS.

I also mentioned that if they are interested, I (or we) can put on a demonstration of our Baja's to give them a better clue on noise and what we're all about.

The noise issue shouldnt be a problem, as it is surrounded by bushland, I have done shows there and never a noise complaint, it is a huge complex.

Access is excellent for both Northside and Southside, with the Logan Motorway servicing the Western Suburbs, from memory the cricket club had a clubhouse with ammenities as well.

The center of the abandoned cricket field that I've seen is probbaly about 50-80m from the Bar (i think it's a bar) so that "could" annoy them though..

If anyone has Google Earth, go to Lat 27°30'22.73"S Long 153° 8'2.64"E
It's a bit old but it will show you the area that I was looking at. As you come through the gates, follow the road untill you get to the T intersection. The building with the carpark is the head office and I believe the building to the North of it is the Pub with toilets, ect.

Is that the building with the covered area in the middle? if so that is the open covered area we were using to host parties and shows,

thumbs up from me! as for the expense i don't mind paying a bit extra for membership if the facilities are there and there won't be too many hassles...

i think the idea of a demo would be excellent so they can see what they are getting in to with noise etc.

thats my 2 bobs worth :thumb:

Not RC related, just loud, Birthday parties, engagements, Xmas functions, 30th & 40th seem to be a particular favoutite, no neighbours to annoy with the music

Here's an update.

I just spoke with Rex Wigney, the executive officer at the belmont complex and after the site committee meeting last night (thurs), they have an intrest in QORLS. Rex had asked me if we would like to put on a demonstration purely for the noise as this was their only concern raised at the meeting.

Although the phone call was cut short by a pirority call, there definatly seems intrest and I'd like to have a number of us have a look at the site one weekend so Rex can give us a tour and you guys can ask the questions you need answered and have an idea on the facilities and grounds we'd possibly be calling home.

The site Rex has planned is the cricket oval that I had mentioned previously, which is currently grassy, flat and should have plenty of room for parking next to/on the oval.

I'd like to make a call out for anyone intrested in coming down to the Belmont complex and see for yourselves the land for grabs and trial run your Baja's for noise concerns. I would strongly recommend attaching your silencers. Once we all settle for a date (possibly in the new year or sooner), I'll inform Rex for a group meeting and demonstration.

Here's some pictures I took today of the feild. Where I'm standing, I'm on top of a raised but flattened pile of dirt over looking the oval. Behind me is the open covered area/bar and toilets. The toilets are easily accessable.

One other thing I've been noticing, alot of trucks must dump ALOT of dirt at the complex as I see them drive in with a full trailer and leave empty. With a little luck, we can ask for some trucks to drop a load of dirt where we need it :) That is, *IF* we secure belmont.

Hi all members
I would like to thank Tom for keeping the spirit going.:thumb:
We all know that Tony is going through some rough times at the moment. (Hope we will see you soon Tony.)
It is good to see that the rest of the committee is still focused on our goals.
Thank you - Tom and Steve S.:thumb:

I cirtantly hope so. One thing my mate (who is also a shooter) mentioned to me is to tell Rex Wigney that I'm a member of the SSAA and I sometimes volenteer at the Brisbane SSAA. The Brisbane SSAA branch is a large club that also pays lease to the Belmont complex. Next time I speak with Rex, I'll try pull a few strings, let him know my shooting history with the club and he (with fingers crossed) may pull some extra strings for us lol. It's a long shot but I'll give it a go.

This field is huge are we going to need all of it?
Is it going to be for the track only or car parks as well?
