Electric KM HK1 progress
How hard can it be? Right? A little tweak here and there, the old fine adjustment may come into play once or twice. It all makes for plug and play fun, a brushless power house on a chassis designed for a nitro power.
Anyone know if it's has being done? I did ask google who suggested pricing for KM kits and parts... That's as far as it went.
Is it ethically correct? Cause it looks like so much effort has being put into making a racing chassis using a nitro power house, I think maybe it might be a slap in the face to see it electric?
Anyhow, disregarding any initial hesitation into my far from being original idea. I'm converting my HK1 to brushless. Pics may follow a bit later...
Hardest part is finding a spur gear and pinion to fit, KM don't do electric (as far as I know), and finding a pinion to match the same pitch as the spur gear/s... So I picked 20 t pinion with 83 t spur gear from the traxxas collection. That with a yeah racing 9 turn brushless esc combo I had from another kit, should be a bit of OK for now cause it seems to fit nicely with my hacked motor bracket. -

Here's the finished product.
Not very aero dynamic, but I feel sheer power will overcome that -

Not sure that little motor will handle all that power. Those style motors are only 380 sized motors with bigger can to make them 540/3650 sized. Your best bet is buy a proper 540 sized unit that will support that much power.

Ok thanks for tip. My first test run out on the open road in front of my place my wee motor decided to pack up and smoke... you that smoke that once release you can't put back in.... but anyway esc and battery survived and my chassis lives to fight another day.
Bigger 540 sized motor it is. With my 1:4 gear spur/pinion ratio is it better I go for low kv? And rely on the fact I have lots more volts for power? -

Usually the higher the voltage the lower the KV to avoid overheating etc. Also when buying motors they usually list a voltage range. Many cheap motors will max out at 3S (11.1 volts).
