Charger & Lipo Battery for Traxxas Stampede 4x4 VXL

    Hi all,

I'm new and just getting back into the hobby again and have just bought a Stampede 4x4 VXL online.

While I wait for it to be delivered I need to purchase a charger and good lipo battery so hopefully I can give it a go as soon as it arrives.

Can anyone advise on what a good charger is for a 2s or 3s lipo battery? I was looking at the Traxxas EZ-Peak 6amp charger but most of them are from the USA so don't have the Australian plug. Can I get an Aussie plug from somewhere else like Jay Car?

Is there another charger I should consider instead?

Also, what battery should I go for? I was looking mainly at a 2s to get started, but would consider a 3s if it's worth it. Should I get the Traxxas iD battery or some other brand instead?

Thanks in advance for any help, it's certainly changed a lot since I last drove my Tamiya Avanti and Kyosho Outrage.

    hello

Do you have a budget in mind?

I started of with a imax b6 charger with dc (powerpoint plug) as did a lot of ppl, good little charger, then i moved to a bigger icharger to charge faster.

if your new to brushless i would suggest 2cell, 3 will be crazy and not reccomended till u have gotten used to driving

    Hi RoBB,

    Thanks for the reply.

After looking at the You Tube videos, I think 2S would be plenty fast enough for me to start with. It'd probably also reduce the amount of wear and tear on the truck while I get used to it as well. Can you recommend a good 2S battery suitable for this which will last a good length of time, more mAh is better right? Are the Traxxas batteries better than other branded ones?

I was looking at the Traxxas EZ Peak Plus charger but it comes with an American plug. Can I simply get a replacement clover leaf type plug from Jay Car for it to work in Australia? Is there any other charger with the same functions/performance which you recommend?

i think you can get an adapter, but it might be 110v? be easier just to get one from australia

i assume your running the black traxxas connectors? can you solder connectors?

with the imax charger your gonna need a power supply, im no good at suggesting one, hobbyking doesnt seem to have any instock in oz

main difference between them is the imax can charge at 5 amps and the icharger will charge at 10 amps and they go higher with some different models, but for the price you could buy 2x imax chargers and still be cheaper, depends on how many batteries you will want, batterys these days will handle the 10 amp charge rate fine

on average id say a 6000mah battery will last you 20mins or so depending on driving
