    whats you got? -drift-

Ok, hey everyone. Just got my first electric road car. Put some plastics on for shoes and been having a ball. But as will all things. It could be better

Wanting some ideas as have never used electrics before and wondering what way to go with things like motors, esc and batteries. The mechs i think im pretty sweet with but lost with the power train.

What set ups do you use so i can get an idea of what i should be shooting for.

Example of which, do you just worry about torque? Or a mix of high torque with a bit of speed? What sort of powered moter is good for it?

Oh yea, and i run a shaft drive. So maybe ideas of gears you use for drift would be cool too.

    Cheers, Slideways.

i assume you're just mucking about around home... not yet into serious competition & dori battles yet?

Yea at the moment im more just playing around down at the shops or carol park drag strip. Want to get a bit of practice up and experiment while i decide about serious comps.

New word for me... dori. Whats that?

I do plan on tracking down some comps around my neck of the woods to see how much fun the comp side is. At the moment its just for my own amusement.

ok when you're ready to socialise...

#1 i take it you're into nitro. Trouble is, nobody else is... everybody is drifting electric.
Nitro is too noisy & smelly for indoor & most residential areas, so it never took off.

#2 i see you're from SE QLD? should be a few guys still sliding there
at the least go chat to Gerry & his mob over at OZRC shop (Geebung?)
    or https://www.facebook.com/driftcity.org

Dori is short for "dorifto"... what the Japs call it

Drift is more about control & style than speed... go watch a tandem battle, its like ballet + kungfu.

For electrics... RC dori started off 4WD @ "50:50" (all wheels spin same speed) then went to
"Countersteer" (rear wheels spin faster than fronts; sometimes with oneway front drive)
then fad went to "RWD" ... yeah 2WD at the rear only.

brand wise I like Tamiya, still got fleet of VDFs in various states of bling.

Yokomo has been original main push behind RC dori in Japan so they've got full range from entrylevel to pro.

HPI used to be big but they've fallen a bit financially afaik... had a few fancy rides like TC-D & ProD but lately only entrylevel Sprint afaik. Don't touch the E10D...

Got some recent fancy brands like Taiwanese MST.

Always plenty of yumcha china crap in RC world... you takes yer chances!
