    cleaned air filter, now what?

    Hey all,

just washed my outer air filter in really soapy water, now I'm wondering do other ppl put something on the filter before fitting back on car? When we buy them they say something like 'pre oiled'. Do you guys oil them somehow?

    Cheers

Supercheap should have the K&N Airfilter oil and cleaner package.

The cleaner I only use if the filter is caked in greasey crap, otherwise I just use hot water and mild detergent, and rinse with plently of clean water, allow to dry naturally in the sun, and then re-oil the inner filter.

Grab a freezer bag to re-oil the filter, the oil is not good for your skin, and if using the filter cleaner spray...WEAR GLOVES, that stuff will strip the oil out of your hands and tends to leave your hands burning (maybe I am soft)

Put the filter in the bag, pour in enough filter oil to allow you to work the oil completely through the filter, once completely oiled, squeeze out the excess, and refit the filter, finally replace the outer filter.

A n00b question, do we only oil the inner filter? Or do we oil the both of them?

the inner only, the outer is to stop the larger bits of crud, and as a dry filter, it is easy to dust off the leaves and debris, if it were oiled, the crud would be too hard to just brush away..

But it is not a noob question, it is actually a common question asked by many, usually at LHS level when the people are buying them

Use a resealable sandwich type bag. Don't toss the bag away afterwards, keep it in your tool box and use the left over oil to do it again next time.
Come to Lake Centenary in Temora to run your RC boat. Free BBQ's, power points, great amenities with hot showers, a childs sandpit/play area and lots of shade sails around the lake edge. It's 2km out of town, fresh water and gas boats are welcome.
