Hi All,

Went to my LHS today to get a replacement for my Savage X (CODE: HPI-77097)

Received a CODE: HPI-76937 instead, being that I ask for a Savage X spur gear :smash:

It wont seem to fit ... am I missing something ??? or is it totally wrong ??

Obvious difference is the dual slipper pads on the 77097 & single on 76937 :frusty:

Also what "hop-up" is a better replacement ??

What you have is the double sided spur gear that has a slipper pad both sides, it proved to be very problematic and was replaced with the 76937 which was actually the original spur gear with one pad on the inside (gearbox side)...you can still find a few of the later (withdrawn) spur gears, but I would advise you to dump it and replace with the alternative, or get the Robinson Racing upgraded Gen3 set up.

The 76937 requires a cross pin(goes through the gearbox input shaft), aluminium rear plate, slipper ring(this mates with the 2 raised pins on the Aluminium plate), slipper pad(sticks onto the spur gear), spur gear, brass bush(5x11), spring, washer with internal hex and an M4 Nyloc nut....installs in the order I have listed them, and tighten the nut completely and then back off by 2 flats only....this will leave yu with a slipper that will last for ages and still do it's job properly

Hi Towie thanks for your response.

is this the RR upgrade that will suit ?? - http://www.rcplanet.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=RRP7048&CartID=6

Is there anything else I require for the modification .. bush's etc ??

I am currently doing an order from RC planet & have these in my cart;

http://www.rcplanet.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=HPI86369&CartID=1
http://www.rcplanet.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=INTT7069PURPLE&CartID=3
http://www.rcplanet.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=INTT7090PURPLE&CartID=4
http://www.rcplanet.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=INTT6919PURPLE&CartID=5
http://www.rcplanet.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=HPI1430&CartID=7

I have herd about shock upgrades to 4 single shocks instead of 8 but cant find that :(

Not that I need them right now but just preparing for brakes & spares :)

Once you give me the all clear on the RR spur/cb I will go ahead & order !!!

Thanks a bunch

As suggested by Sandra, either use the Hpi 102365 or the A720's, the difference is small but the 720's are Aluminium and dont tend to pop the shock cap off under extreme load. You can also get the 102365's from a Flux if you want to haunt any of the LHS that break up the models.

The stock Hpi 2 speed is pretty reliable, and I dont know if there is too much benifit upgrading to the Integy clutch, in fact I wouldnt bother, neither would I bother with the Integy Air Clener, it is pretty much junk and you will likely bin it pretty fast.

The Adjustable Toe Links are pretty useful thoough, the original Hpi ones tend to stretch and pop off, so I would get them still, and I would stick with the genuine One Way Bearing....the after market Integy bearing doesnt have a very good name for relaibility. Are you sure you have the 1430 bearing....there are 3 OWB for the Savages, the 1430 that you have listed, then there are 2 that go internal on the engine, one fits the 4.6 and a slightly modified one, also internal that is fitted to the 5.9

In relation to the RR set up, unless you are running the Electric Savage, the stock slipper/spur works pretty well and is a cheap failsafe, you can always fit up the Heavy Duty Racing Clutch Bell and still run the plastic spur gear, or with the HD Clutch bell you can run the Hpi Steel gear that works just as wel as the RR in the nitro version

HPI Big Bore Aluminum Shock Set Savage HPIA720
http://www.rcplanet.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=HPIA720&CartID=2

Integy Type II Steering Bell Crank w Servo Saver Savage-X

HPI Heavy Duty Spur Gear 47 Tooth
http://www.rcplanet.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=HPI77127&CartID=12

I check the OWB & it seems I have chosen the correct on as mine is external to the motor. I also dumped a few things as per your advice.

Do you have a hardened clutch bell on the Savage, if not you will need to get one to match the steel spur gear

I have never used the McCoy glo plugs so cant comment on those, but the rest of the gear looks like you have things covered

The stock and hardened clutchbells are both steel, just one is soft.

The Hpi bells have a distinctive 3 oblong shaped slots at the front just behind the teeth section, the general purpose (softer) bell is without holes

So I finally received my package from RC Planet woot woot !!

The only thing I couldn't get was the Integy Type II Steering Bell Crank as they were out of stock at the time of order :(

Had a play with the Mini Recon last night & it seems like a great lil toy with plenty of grunt (for $100 you cant expect to much) was a bit of a pain binding the transmitter as it just wanted to go in reverse flat out until I somehow fixed it :whoo:

Still not sure why it was doing it ..any idea's ??

Wont bother fitting the other gear until its needed ... or I get bored what ever comes first.
