    {QLD} Just Saying Hi !

    Hi All,

New to RC but not to forums

Just got hold of a new Savage X & im now fully addicted
Im lucky to live 5 mins away from the new Carole Park RC site woot woot !
From some net research its home to the Ipswitch Nitro Nutz ?? are there any members on here ??

Still learning how to pull apart my car .. as I have broken a few things all ready currently a broken spur gear (hpi #77094) .. are there hop up options to replace this with ??

I have a heap more questions so I will be a good lil forum user & place them in the right sections

    Thanks Luke

    G'Day Luke,
New Savage huh? Not a bad stepping stone to a mans car like a Baja! Just kidding they are a great truck.

Is that track open yet? I drove past a few months ago and it was still fenced off.
Better to ask for forgiveness than ask for permission.

Welcome to the forum fellow brisbanite.
Love the savages (used to have one myself but got rid of it for my racer).
There are definitely hop ups for the savage, almost ridiculous amounts of them, both from HPI and aftermarket companies.
If your spur gear is the plastic one then the best thing would be to upgrade to the steel one which is available genuine HPI or aftermarket options too.
Have fun with it, they're a help of a tough truck
    Cheers

@Brad, yeah mate its open but there is still a few things left to do around the place water/power/stands etc.. but the track is very usable.
I have read plans about an on-road track there too, but cant see any evidence of the build yet ??
Those Baja's are badass man !!! small steps matey small steps

@Dave, still learning whats what regarding parts/upgrades etc.. Im pretty mechanically minded so I should be able to figure it out (I hope)
Have been looking at this chart (http://www.hpiracing.com/graphics/instr/savagegears.jpg) to work out what I should replace for better acceleration ... any ideas ??

Thank you both for the welcome

I've never seen that chart, it only seems to mention the older savages, not the newer ones.
I never messed around with my gearing, the xl comes standard with a steel spur so I didnt have to change it, plus I was happy with the acceleration anyway.
Anyway the lower the gearing the faster it will accelerate, but at the loss of top speed.
while the taller the gearing the more top speed but at the loss of acceleration.

Smaller pinion (clutch bell) with larger spur = lower gearing
larger pinion with smaller spur = tall gearing

you can always put the 3 speed out of the xl in it, which then means you can gear lower for more acceleration but still get a good top speed from the added 3rd speed in the tranny

As far as I know they have the same transmission case dimensions so it bolts straight in if you get a complete one. There are definitely people who know more about the subject than me though.
