    TQi Binding Instructions
For proper operation, the transmitter and receiver must be
electronically ‘bound.’ Thishas been done for you at the factory.
Should you ever need to re-bind the system or bind to anadditional
transmitter or receiver, follow these instructions. Note: the receiver
must be connected to a 4.8-6.0v (nominal) power source forbinding
and the transmitter and receiver must be within 5 feet of eachother.
    1. Press and hold the transmitter’s SET button as you switch
transmitter on. The transmitter’s LED will flash red slowly.Release
    the SET button.
    2. Press and hold the receiver’s LINK button as you switch themodel
    on. Release the LINK button.
    3. When the transmitter and receiver’s LEDs turn solid green, the
system is bound and ready for use. Confirm that the steering and
throttleoperate properly before driving your model.

Just an update on the situation... i called the hobby centre again this time asking to speak to a manager... after explaining the situation they offered me a voucher to the value of a replacement receiver... so in the end they came around.

    A good result I think!

That's good news! Funny how things can turn around in your favour when you talk to the right person.

I guess you just have to check and double check the connections before trying again and you will be off and running again.

Ok, new receiver just arrived. Can someone please explain the 3 plugs coming from the switch on the car?

I see from a previous post that i have now plugged the one red female into the new battery pack using the adapter... but i am now left with a black male from same side of the switch... is this to charge battery pack without disconnection???

Next qn, the red male on other side of switch to the hump pack, that goes into batt/ch5 on receiver am i correct??

This receiver is very slightly different to my last, will this cause a problem?

    This is BLOWN receiver...

    Thanks guys

Red to red, black to black...

Why have you got red (positive) running to black (negative)?

The black plug from the switch goes to the (B) Batt input on your new RX.

Make sure the black wire is closest to the edge of the RX. (Copy your servo plugs orientation).

You will need to bind it: Look back through your thread, see Towies post #22 for binding instructions.

It will be fine. At worst it won't bind with the TX if it's not compatible, you just have to try it.

Polarity is ultra important...at no point is it acceptable to run the wires connected backwards unless you are doing a series hook up, and that is a completely different set up that you shouldnt have to experiment with at this point.

All negative wires are either black or brown

    All positives are red

All signal wires are either orange, white or yellow

You may find some exceptions on chinese cheapies, but never on quality servos, hump packs and radio gear.

The main plugs you will come across in radio gear, servos and hump packs are going to be either...

JST (small red plug with a pair of bumps on one side)

JR (medium sized black plugs with 3 wiring holes, no tab on the side for polarity) these fit Spektrum JR and will also fit Futaba based units, but polarity must be checked before installation

Futaba (medium sized Back plugs, can also be red, have a tab on the signal side to ensure correct polarity of the wiring), will only fit futaba gear, but can have the tab shaved off to fit JR Spektrum units, at which point, correct polarity must be observed.

Hope this info is useful to you.

So you can confirm I need a male futaba for the below plug? Thanks for the help!

That plug is the Futaba, if you look to the bottom of the pickie, you can see the tab just on the lowest right hand corner of the plug, you will need a Futaba fitting to match that one, or you could use a JR fitting, but that would require removal of the tab to make it fit correctly.

There is a pickie in the link of the lead you require

Excellent info! So "Traxxas Female" can also be known as "Futaba Female" in this case... thanks for URL too.

Traxxas Female is really a Futaba Female...Traxxas just use the fitting and call it their own, but as long as you know they do it, it will easier to locate the right part...that is the main thing. : )
