Interesting, single small servo for the steering and another for the brakes....... I wonder how its holding up

Well I've been picking brains from all over and having a look at a variety of builds, I haven't actually found a heap of builds but there are definitely a few monsters out there.

I will have to order tfe bump stops

I've got some 7955 servos coming my way, I will use one for the mech brakes on the Losi

2 of them are going to replace the steering in the bajas...... I will need an adapter plate to do this and to make it more worth while I'll probably swap to a lipo for the bajas

This will give me to 5755s which I'll use in a dual steering set up for the Losi

I'm leaning towards the MGM x-25063 for the esc

At this stage I'm looking at the castle 2028 for the motor I won't likely be going over 8s....... Which I still need to purchase looking for fun performance..... I won't be doing speed runs and I don't want to be on my back wheels the whole time - has anybody got a spur and pinion recommendation?

Because I found out I seriously suck at soldering, I am going to most likely stagger 6mm bullets, I'm not sure if I will need a cap bank with my set up as I will never be pushing this esc

The rc madness bl5 looks like the conversion kit I'll be using

The shocks, arms, sway bars, diffs, brakes, hubs and most of the rest of the guts will most likely be stock - unless anybody has suggestions for parts that I shouldn't bother with and has an upgrade I should go straight for

Way, Milzee, big block or anybody else might be able to point me in the right direction for the shock set up, weight and springs......?

I scored a cheap dual servo mount!

Contacted the "local" hobby shop that I'll be sourcing most of my parts from so they could start chasing up parts and I can start sending them money

hopefully this build won't take as long as I originally thought

Wayne is pretty busy with his new born little girl so RC is probably the last thing on his mind but last time I spoke to him he was pretty happy with the overall truck setup. Springs and whay ever oil was stock in the shocks is working for him. You do loose a little bit of weight going electric so that helps I guess. With diffs he did mention he might want to try something thicker in the center as it off loads a bit too much to the front. Not sure whats stock in there neither.

With the ESC I am not sure what is a better way to go. I do know that MGM boys look after their customers too but it usually takes a lot longer to get a MGM unit repaired/replaced than a Castle one. For the price of the MGM you could buy two Castle units and always have one as a backup while the other is getting repaired. Just a thought.

Wayne isn't running a cap bank and seems to have no issues on 8S. He's put quite a few packs through it by now and the ESC and indeed the rest of the setup is still going. Mechanical brakes and external power source for the servos has sure helped that.

If you need any soldering done I would be happy to help out there Luke. With those giant 8mm bullets its better to use a butane torch than a soldering iron. Is a little tricky though and you better have high heat tolerance in your finger tips. LOL.

Best of luck with the build mate and I'll be watching your progress.

Thanks Big-block, I've never worked with a 4wd before but i'm guessing if I thicken the rear and centre diff a bit more than the front I should end up with a slightly rear happy controllable car?

I think I'm set on the MGM as they have been mentioned as waterproof and built in data logging, that pretty much wins it for me as somehow my cars are drawn towards puddles almost as much as poles/trees/people/fences

I've been using butane, I think the bigger bullets should be easier to work with....... biggest problem I have is tinning the wire

Waynes set up with the external battery sounds interesting, are the pros worth the effort in the set up? the Baja's have issues along the driveline when using huge amounts of power, does any of the driveline (cups, bones, diffs) need to be upgraded when running the brushless system?

The Hpi e-baja running the castle set up is using a deans rather than bullets, and seems to be a little easier to work with than the 8mm bullets....I would still like to see some kind of switch built in to make programming the esc easier, and also for turning on/off

Luke so far there has been zero uogrades on Waynes Losi and zero breakages. Not sure on how things are wearing but no issues what so ever in terms of breakages. Also your theory on diff oils is spot on. Thicker oil in the center = more power getting to the rear. Thicker oil in the rear = more even power distribution between left and right axle. Both will contribute to a car that likes to oversteer.

Stay away from Deans. Yeah I know HPI use them but its just stupidity IMO. I have had genuine Deans get so hot that they partialy melted. Only reason why they didnt melt completely was because the connection was broken. That was in a 1/8th setup on 6S. Baja would be much heavier than my Savage and the Losi is heavier than the Baja again. Not something I would recommend at all.

I just moved from deans to ec3's -.- what a pain getting those into the plugs! but I ruined far less than when I was doing deans -.-

I thought for these sized brushless set ups the best options were bullets or some fancy expensive clips....... it wouldn't really matter as this is the only model that will run these battery packs

EC5 are pretty easy to work with. I am slowly changing over all my gear to them. I use the soldering iront to tin the wire but again the butane torch on the actuall connector/plug. Real easy to work with and can also handle decent amount of current. They could be the go although 8mm connectors would still be a wise choice. You coild add a spark preventing resistor too so you dont get loud pops everytime you connect the plugs. Will akso stop eroding them too.

Cups, diff etc are wearing surprisingly well. No wear issues at all. Mine does have a few upgrades that Darko isn't aware of as they were already on the car when I gave it to him to work on. But they are just little things like front aluminium chassis brace (can't find where the rear one has gone!), hubs, spindles, strengthen rods etc. Nothing major.

    Thanks Wayne!

depending on the cost difference I was looking at going straight for a few of the alloy options...... the drive train is where the difference is generally quite noticable so if the stock drive train is doing well i may stick to it

Well it is finally in my possession! next to the Baja it doesn't look that big but holy hell its huge! it barely fitted in the boot of my car!

I now have the chassis, roll cage, body, rear centre shaft, wheels and dual steering servo mount plus Hitec 7955's

I will be looking at the below

    MGM esc
maybe a Lehner motor, if not a Castle 2028
    BL5 Conversion
    stock shocks
    stock arms
a few goodies from Killer RC - being run from an external Life pack
    stock diffs and driveline
running from my 4PKS - rx will be donated from the VDF

Any chance you can keep on eye on how much this ends up costing? Kinda curious, that's all.
