    Otherwise you're just making assumptions.

It's not easy though considering you'd be comparing a pegged currency with a floating one and a regulated financial sector with a deregulated one.

Then there's the issues of fix price versus flex price markets....... and so on.
Well it's pretty simple as I said above... DX has gone from 120 to 76, and at the same time oil has gone from $10 a barrel to up to $145 at some points.

    Cheers

When the peg was in place $Aus bought you $US1.20 ..... and yet the price of fuel was less than 70c a litre.

And the float gave us a fair dollar value. You can't tell me $1.20 isn't overvalued, surely you understand that currencies are relative. Oil is priced in USD... At that time the dollar was still strong, Australia just seemed to have higher hopes.

Doesn't change the fact that 80% of the USD's purchasing power has been wiped off the books since then.

    Cheers

To take it back to the original post...well, somewhat related:

More on a domestic scale, but very interesting to see a large online company come out with the allegation on anti-competitive behaviour.

They don't name names but it's a pretty safe bet the "brick and mortar" retailer they refer to is Hardly Normal....

The Australian dollar was pegged to the Pound not the $US

    In 1973 $AUS was worth $US1.45

    I'm just grinding gears

Oddly enough, in the 70's and early 80's RC gear in Australia cost a fortune.

It seems a lot more affordable now than it ever was back then.

Competition, and technological advancement amoung other things perhaps might be the reason.
