Jets over the Fraser Coast 2010

The event was from Thurday-today. We went up Friday evening and got out to the host club's (Maryborough Model Aero Club) field bright and early on Saturday morning.

It was an AWESOME day! Was pretty cold and the wind was strong and didn't let up all day but that didn't stop the turbine pilots at all! I think the motto for the day was "fast and low" - some of those guys had their jets literally less than 1m off the deck and going flat out.

There were the usual share of crashes, the one on Saturday was horrible. Felt so sorry for that pilot - beautiful hand painted jet went into the lake just before the runway.

We took over 2800 photos and a bunch of video. I went through quickly yesterday and grabbed a few cool looking shots for a bit of a teaser. Will try to get the rest of them sorted out later this week.

Here's a few of the better ones IMO

This is the jet that crashed on Saturday. It's painted in the McLaren F1 racing team colours. The owner/pilot even contacted them directly to get the correct colours etc

That Vodafone Jet looks sweet, sad to see it end up in the drink, is it repairable?

I don't think so man, it was wrecked. Plus they had to pull it out of the water, so no idea what the instant cooling would have done to the turbine etc.
