I took the plunge and my wife got me a venom creeper its what i wanted so i see a lot of people ask about them so i was going to do a build tread so people can see what its like and stuff this is my first crawler so i will be learning to.
Should start in the next few days and will have pics of everything so people can see how it goes
There are some pics of it together on the first page just waiting for tuesday to order the electrics for it ill post pics of everything when i get them im getting most of it from ckrc crawlers
Hey guys just a update on thursday i will be ordering the following
- Venom 55 turn motor
- Servo (nothing to flash)
- CKRC stage 2 suspention upgrade
- BTA Steering kit witch comes with a lipo batt mount for the front
- Servo Arm
- Possilbly 4 rover tyres ?
Any other sugestions before then i will have a look into
Well from what i can tell the suspention upgrade will lower the center of gravity, adds more clearance, and gets rid of that annoying torque twist that there soposebly is ment to be
The bta kit speaks for its self the main reson i am getting it really is so i can mount the lipo over the front axle
I got the Tekin FXR & a Tekin 55T motor off Ebay for $160 straight to my door, it works very well, heaps of adjustments too. I also got the 3 channel 2.4ghz radio for $90 from ebay as well. the 3rd channel has a 3 position switch so you can have rear steer, rear & front steer or crab crawl.
Yea not sure i can get the venom 3 ch for 39 but its fm and has 15 mod memory or for 79 i can get the venom 2.4 gig with 10 model memory only down side is its not dsm so i might go the fm till i can get a spekkie 2.4
I got a slash speedy kicking around i was going to put that it just to run it for the first time till i get the one i want
I havent decided weather to make it rear steer / remote locking diffs or put a dig onboard just need to run it first so i can decide if i go rear wheel steer it could make everything easy lol
I'm doing the same with the ax10 , run it stock so i can see how it improves with each rebuild/upgrade as I learn more about it and crawling. got to get a sweet paint job for the body :thumb:
Hey mate it is incridible what I have learnt about crawling the past few weeks so much to learn I love it.
Todayi ordered everything as above and couldnt hold back and got some soft rover Tyrese witch stand at 5.5 inchs some Velcro straps for my batts and I got it expressed posted cause I don't like waiting so should be here in five days
I am going to use a 2 chan radio at first till I decide if I go a dig duel steer or remote locking diffs. What about if I lock the diffs does anyone know about that I suppose then you lose your turning circle right?
Hey thanks for the site now my wifes hates me when im not on here im poking around on there lol..... having a lock about lockers soon was hoping my gear would rool up today but if its not here tommorrow i am going to be annoyed lol
Hey guys well all my gear rolled up the so I have done the stage 2 suspension upgrade the bta it is all most done tyres are on and the motor is in place
The only thing I am not happy with is the servo is failed right out of the box so it was a ckrc cheapy so I need to buy a better one what does everyone else use as I need one that will take the weight
And if some one has a better servo for sale better than a xl5 for sale let me know
It all depends on what you want to spend on a steering servo, you can pay anywhere from $40 for a 15kg one or up to $150+ on something like a 24kg one.
Dont think i will need anything over a 15 kg so its just thats and the speedy i got the xl5 but want to get a rock crawler on so maybe rooster not sure
The new suspesion kit as given me a bit more ground clearance and a much better center for gravity as the tyres gave me even more clearance
The bta kit i hope will give me a much better apporch angle then you normal can so this helps a lot motor seems to slip im sure the mesh is right but see what you guys have to say
Bit of a update i have ordered a novak rooster brushed esc just decided to bite the bullet and buy the bloody thing and i also ordered a new servo rated at 16kg so better work when i get it.
When i got the motor i used my xl5 esc i just set a little book in front of the crawler and went to crawl over it and the gears grinded like a bloody dog box in a old kenny so i thought i better look at whats wrong. so i pulled it all apart and couldnt see anything wrong i didnt run it long enough to damage a gear so i decided to put it all back together and it came to my attention that i was missing a bearing in the last gear that goes it so i somehow found a bearing in the box it all came in i put it together motor in xl5 esc on and it spun good.
Put some load on the shaft with a pair for pliers and you guessed it it ran perfect i am so happy i worked this out now and not later on i was starting to wounder where that bearing went lol.....
So with a bit of luck and express postage the esc and servo should be at my door on tuesday and hopefully crawling you tuesday night
Bad thing is since i got into this hobby and reading all these threads on the ipod and computer i have to get glasses as my eyes hurt so much so getting them tommorrow night to what a expensive week lol.
Hey guys do to the issues with the site this post was removed so i am just replacing it of the finshed product as i was sick last week all the goodies rolled up at home and i put them all in i am very happy with the novak roooster it has a excellent drag brake and as for the servo they sent me two as the last one was DOA....
So i used the weaker one and it seems fantastic ill keep the strong one as a spare..
Crawling qise i am stoked goes over anything its very impressive the way it can monuver over rocks that i struggle to walk over i have some video but i will edit first and its only of it crawling over a 5b lol so i need to hit some rocks soon.... diffs seem extremly strong and i have had it under some heavy load.
Also to stop the vcd pins falling out as its a common problem with the venom creeeper i have had to get some yellow heat shrink ( IT was the only color i had) and slide it over alll of them and this seems to work great
Enjoy the pics guys and vids will come as they happen...
have you managed to lock the diffs?
im still finding the cheapest way to do it ......
there are a few suggestions on rccrawler, but just want to see first how we the aussies do it :thumb:
