Nice, I came quite close to buying one of the 450's (around december last year), had my mind set on it was even about to go and buy it... but just before I did, I had another look at the competition (Nikon, Pentax etc...) and thought the D60 would be alright, esp if I could get the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens (im pretty sure that was the one).
End result?.... I'm still SLR-less :bang:
Worse result?... Wont be able to get one for quite a while :bang::bang:
Best case Sh1mmy is that you can get the 500D with HD video. Or a cheaper 450D because the 500D is out.
Also check the Sony stuff now. They have really come a long way.
My approach was to get in with a lower end camera and get some serious lenses. Mainly by them from a parallel importer in Nth Sydney here. Good little shop front.
So far I have EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM, EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM, EF 50mm f/1.8 II plus the 2 kit lenses.
Also have the 580EX II flash unit as well.
Including the body I have spent about $6k. I reckon it would be 10k with going through normal and not parallel importers.
Hey Scott. yeah mate, it was all good. Pretty impressed with the car itself, it was pretty resilient, did pretty much everything we asked of it. To me it just looks like the ESC shorted in a big way. Everything else is fine.
Well despite the outage to the ESC, the progress is still going ahead!
Just arrived is a set of 4" Losi crawler shocks which I have ample time to get installed
Also a carbon fibre battery/servo mount from 3 Racing
Plenty of time to fit it when you have a dead car!
Should be able to get a decent spec for the battery to sit alongside the servo now.
Shame I am working late tonight
Internet infrastructure and web site design I guess is the best way to put it. I work in the Web Technologies area at the Reserve Bank
Sounds good Shorty on the crawl. Apparently there are some good places over the back of Menai near my place that a few of the guys at the Crawl Pit frequent, but I fried the ESC
Well I managed to find someone who makes the right sized batteries.
WinForce makes a nice sized 1500mah 25C 3s battery with the following dimensions: 68mm x 36mm x 24mm.
The magic number on most of the front battery mounts seems to be around the low 70s for the overall length (around 72mm)
I made up a template the other night to test it out and it seems like like a nice easy fit.
I'll get some piccies up with the mockup battery in there tonight
Batteries arrived fine and are pretty damn small. Never got around to taking the photos with the mockup, but will get an image up shortly with the real thing in there.
With the E-Maxx parts a way off, I will likely get around to the replacement ESC!
Just purchased exactly the same vehicle... orange and all..
Put in an old NOSRAM esc and a 50T Venom motor.
Less than an hour later my 5yr old and i are climbing up every rock on the block.. good fun
Great for teachin youngens how to drive cars.. not much stops them
I just ran a 3000 NiMh and it went for like an hour, second battery straight after. Touch the motor after the second full battery and it is still cold..
I didnt have any meltdown dramas... What size motor did you put in?
Hey Stangas, which batteries did you get? got a link to them?
OK so where are things with this one?
The front axle battery mount was installed as were the Losi shocks.
Ideally I would want to work on this further, but I think for the time being this is going to stay as it is.
It is pretty much now going to be the kids crawler. The boys will likely be fighting over it and if they do I dare say a SCX10 will be on the cards!
The Losi CC has become mine, so need to get that up and running before I revisit this one.
Hey man...deffinatly cut your foams now , don't wait to try.
Also just load your rims with as much weight you can phisically fit in there, front & rear. All this is from previous experiments that i've allready done.
From memory I whacked in 6oz (170g) in the front and 4oz (115g) in the back. Think the front wheels were around 260g each and the rears 200g a pop.
In the end on the foams I cut a channel and not the star pattern. I like the idea of collapsing a little on the flat and keep some wall strength on them for side hill.
The Losi I migt try some other things on but will wait til i get in the garage at a minimum
Hey Carn, you have me thinking about getting a crawler!! I am pretty keen and my local indoor track a few months ago finished building a crawler track which seems pretty cool, no one really ever uses it which means there would be plenty of time for me to use it.
I hope your not neglecting your emaxxs with your comment "Actually this will be my first brand new car all the way through. More pumped about this than anything else I have done so far""!!
Whats the go with the tekin ESC? Do you think it will be covered under warranty?
I guess it was more that it was mine from the shelf and not someone elses before
FXR was sent back and a new one returned inside three weeks of it happening, so yeah all good. It's good fun and you don't need the same area as the emaxx. To s of places on fire trails around here to have some fun.
