Well, it seems like Tamiya have decided to jump on the truggy bandwagon and design a truggy of their own, and we all know how tamiya can sometimes release some pretty funky stuff (the good funky that is :)).

It will be considered a high end competition vehicle from the company so it will be in the form of a kit. No news on prebuilt or rtr just yet.

From the tamiya site.

The 801Xt is a 1/8th scale competition level assembly Truggy kit, designed and tested in Southern California, USA. The highly efficient drive system comes from the optimized placement of the front and rear propeller shafts. The drive-line is virtually straight, which offers the most efficient drive-line possible in its class. The 801Xt chassis has plenty of adjustability to fine tune it for the most demanding of race tracks across the globe. TRF drivers from all parts of the world will be piloting this new competition level Truggy in the coming months in an effort to exploit its potential and further develop the new line of 801Xt options soon to come!

A few more pics under the skin.

So far, im really liking the color theme, blue alloy.....nice. The only other special thing i can see is the straight drivetrain, which will reallly help with offloading any stress or excessive wear and tear. Other than that, it seems pretty ordinary.

I will keep this thread updated as more info comes to hand.

LOOOKS good.

Although are the front shocks thicker then the rear or is it my eyes again?

The suspension towers look cheapy, rather the metal just coloured ones

With Tamiya, their biggest issue, like Kyosho (in Australia), is parts support.
I dunno ... but with the plethora of companies out there with able truggys, and more than able part suport, Tamiya's going to have to come in straight away with a decent package, and even better parts back up, or they could find themselves on the back foot straight away.

I do hope they can use their world championship formula for elec on road, and inject it in to their offroad exploits.

Hmmmm, TRF801XT or Kyosho ST-RR? Like MarkG said tho, I bought a Hyper ST because the parts support is far better.

I still might get an ST-RR later tho, cause from what I've seen, so long as you you treat it nice they hardly break anything :D (fingers crossed)

Why those 2 if you don't mind me asking? I daresay the Kyosho is way more expensive than most leading truggies on the market, judging by the MP777 still at $1099... Plus paying that much for a Kyosho won't get you any better performance than anything else out there...

Cheers

cdis.. Kyosho ST-RR is an awesome truggy, tho saying that, part supply in Australia is 'weak' at best.

I looked at both the Losi and the Kyosho, and ultimately, the Losi won out for it's superior parts support in Austrlalia - mainly thru Modelflight.com.au

With regard to price, you can actually buy a ST-RR cheaper (with shipping) from overseas than what I paid for my ST Pro RTR here, and I got a really good price from my LHS :(.

I like Kyosho as a brand, plus my first nitro was a Kyosho Inferno ST. Only trouble is spares, but I guess I can just get em off the eBay guys who strip kits.

I gotta upgrade my driving style alot before I can justify spending on a new truggy anyway lol. I just think the ST-RR is a sexy beast! :D

LOL. Agree wih Stoogey. Treat her nice, and she'll be nice in return

I have had an admiration for the top-end Tamiya products. They are just fabulous. Gone are the days when Tamiya dominated the AU market, this os both good and bad, but my memories are primarily those of Tamiya making it mark on my 'childhood'. Without them, I wouldn't be into RC.

Also agree that, as the sands of time pass by, it would have had a chance to 'prove' itself, competition wise that it...

The TRF415 is a darn excellent car. If that is anything to go by, then this truggy will be a ripper :)
