Considering building a boat from scratch

Ok I was reading the latest RC Driver magazine and i saw a nitro boat in there... it got me thinking...

I have a spare Force .21 nitro motor out of my XT2 buggy as i just upgraded it to a HPI .28 motor...
I also have a couple of spare servos and i can get radio gear cheap on ebay...

So i was thinking of building a boat... I know nothing about boats...

Can i use my car motor in a boat? I guess change the head to a water cooled one?

I am not sure whether to build a hull from scratch or buy one from ebay or something...

What would be the best to build a hull out of? would balsa be suitable?

Anything else i should consider?

Scratch building a boat is not as easy as you think.

With the 3.5cc engines, the Firefighter hydro kit is probably the easiest boat to build with very good results.
