Hi All,
I've been a member on this forum for a while but haven't done much posting.
I race Large scale at SALS and and have been loving since I started a 2 years ago. There was bit of talk going around about these Hormann HT-3's so I went for a drive to PSR in Adelaide to check them out.
Mike and Bryan done the sale pitch, made me an offer I couldn't refuse and before I knew it I walked out the door with a big box full of goodies

Machine work and tolerances are flawless. The bearings 'click' in. A bit of thumb pressure is all that is required. No tapping in with hammers. The front end width can be changed by simply swapping the post from the inner hole in the hub to the outer.

Finally got to bolt some bits to the chassis. A couple test runs before the loctite goes on and all is well.
Everything fits up so snug and the movement is so smooth

I did a few 'dry runs' first to make sure I had all the shims and gears in the right place. I will admit that I didn't get it right the first time. It wasn't hard, but it did take a few attempts to get it right.

Started on the electronics, Servos are in. 2 Rhino Digi 4's on the steering and 2 hitec 7955TG for throttle and brakes.
Steering works a treat and has plenty of power. I recon you could stand on the front and you could get full lock!

Motor goes in very easy, 4 bolts on the side and 2 from underneath. To remove it is just as easy.

Well, it's race day tomorrow! My PSR Hormann HT-3 is ready to race!

Quick update,
I have added a couple more stickers had some name and numbers made. I am waiting on a big SALS one for the front which will finish it off.
Here it is in race trim.

take a 10 liter drum of water fill it to the top dunk the car in and measure the water that comes out 1 ltr =1kg roughly your car will be destroyed but at least youll know the weight lol

Well, we have been informed that round 1 has been cancelled again. Although the rain is great I do wish it would just bugger off for a while.
I now have to wait for another two weeks before I get to see what this thing can do. Oh well, I guess it means it stays looking like new for a little longer....

No dirt yet but I did get brave and I did a couple 'cruises' up and down the road out the back. It's really course bitumen and doesn't do the soft rubber tyres any good.
It was good to take it for a spin.

Made a trip to see Mike and Bryan at PSR today. Just dropped in to get a couple of plugs and a few bits for my truck.
I got chatting with Bryan about set ups and what we think might work for the track at SALS and this it what he came up with. Extended front snocks and brace and a full set of springs. I've got the brace and shocks done but not sure on the springs? I like the green ones, might try them on the back.

Feels good to get the first race day done and dusted.
The first heat was good, can't complain, got a 3rd. Had a shocker issues in the second heat, the lower bolt came out after 5 laps and I didn't get it fixed in time to get back out.
Started the final from third on the grid. The track had dried out by then and was very slick. Spent most of the race battling with Brenton which was good fun. I lost a rear shock retainer about half way through the race which made the car a bit difficult to handle. I took it a bit easy after that and managed to finish the final in third behind Bryan and Brenton.

I can't wait for the test and tune now. The car is quick, very quick and handles really well and I can only see them getting quicker, heaps of room for improvement.

Gave the battery a recharge today.

At the moment I'm running a 6.6v 3000mAh Li Fe battery. After running it for about 35-40 minutes the battery took 1092 mAh.

That's pretty good, I thought it would have used more considering it has 2 Rhino digi 4's for steering and a 7955 for brake and throttle. Maybe when the other servo goes in for brakes it will chew up a bit more.
I'm looking at making up a couple of 6.6v A123 2300mAh batterys to fit under the servo tray. They will be a little bit lighter and will also be able to be placed lower on the car.

I've given the car the once over after round 1 2.

The clay sure does make a mess but once set comes off rather easy. I didn't give it the 'make it look like new' clean as it will hopefully hit the track again on the 18th for the test and tune.

First step was to remove the electrics. With the design of the servo tray this is so easy.

That takes less than 5 minutes.

Next bit's a no brainer. 2 screws and fuel lines and the tank is out. I also remove the throttle and brake linkage at this stage.

Engine removal is pretty basic. 2 bolts on the fan cover and 4 on the crank case which are all easily accessible. I just loosen the the exhaust clamp and take it all out as one.

Next, remove shockers and retaining clips holding camber links to hubs. Undo 4 bolts and remove part of the rear end. (Upper diff housing??)

I undid the steering arms from the hubs, removed the clips for the ball ends on the hubs and the 4 screws holding the bulkhead assembly.

I also removed the lower arms which was just removing 2 E clips and pulling out the pins but I don't have a picture of that.

The whole design of this car makes it a breeze to work on. I love it!

Had a cracker of a day's racing at SALS today. In short 3 wins from 3 starts for the PSR Hormann HT-3 V2 :cool:.

I hadn't had an opportunity to do any testing since last round so the car hit the track the same as it ended the last round.

The car went well, the Mik Morten engine is freeing up and running sweet and the couple of small suspension changes worked for the better. I still had a heap of under steer on turn in but I was happy with the way it was exiting so I wasn't to concerned.

I am looking forward to doing a bit of testing now as I'm sure there is a heap more speed to get from it.

Well test and tune has came and gone and I wasn't able to attend :(
I did how ever get to have a bit tool time on the car!

I received my first box of goodies from PSR since the move interstate.
Brakes! A set of twin piston Mecatech hydros :cool:. What an awesome bit of kit.
They were a pretty easy fit up and after watching a youtube video I had them bleed and ready to go.

I was in to much of a hurry to get them fitted that I forgot to take some other pictures.

Just have to wait a couple of weeks now to see how they pull me up on the track! No more having to back off 2/3 the way down the back straight now, should help lower the lap times a bit more.

Well, brake wise tire choice didn't make that much of a difference on dirt, the brakes work that well they all just locked up!
Took a bit of getting used to and the bias wasn't as easy to get right as I first thought. It's another button on the transmitter to get used too. :lol: In the end I think I still had too much front but it was much better than racing with out them ;).

Had another awesome day race wise, another 3 from 3 for the PSR Hormann HT-3. What an awesome car to drive!

I think the track got better as the day went on. It was watered well between heats and finals and in the end there was a great racing line.

I only made one suspension change for the day and the usual tire change and the car reacted well as expected. I'm not 100% convinced i made the right tire choice for the final but it got me the results I was after.

I think that everyone that attended would agree that the track is getting better all the time. A bit of sunshine is a heap better than an inch of rain.

It was a great event, well run at a great venue.

It was good to finally have a decent chance to play around with the suspension.
The heats started off good with a 1st but I had a DNF and 2 DNS due to a couple of stripped grub screws in the right hand rear hub. No more alloy hubs, I've gone back to the original steel ones.
With the hub fixed I managed a 2nd and another 1st in the remainder of heats to give me P6 in the A final.
In short, a run in with a stray car done some serious damage to a hinge pin. The car was a hand full after that but still managed to bring it home in a respectable 7th.
The MIK motor performed flawlessly, I'm really impressed with the power and reliability I got from it.

A big thanks to Mike and Bryan from PSR for their on going support. Cheers guys!

We have now finished the SALS 2013 winter series. It ended up being 1 round short of the scheduled 5 due to a few wet weekends.

I didnt finish the first the heat, bald tyres were the main reason, I had no grip at all. Did ok in the second heat with the third quickest time.

The final was a shocker. After an incident on the first lap I took an excursion off the track and got hooked up on the ropes that define the track. One of my rear axles picked up the frayed ends and wrapped it's self up so tight it stalled the engine. Once I got going again it difficult to handle, one wheel was all but locked up. I kept going the best I could and managed to get fourth.

It's a good solid reliable car, easy to work on and fun to drive. The Mik Motor is awesome! plenty of power, reliable and good on fuel.

It wasn't the best of starts to the year but still managed to place third in the final.
Well done to Skip and Matt placing 1st and 2nd.

I was very rusty at the controls, no doubt about it and I could not for the life of me battle the under steer I had dialed into the car. :(
Nothing better after a frustrating round to spoil yourself so I have added a new SAMBA titanium pipe and a set of 170mm FG wheels.:D
