It's a Hobby king fibreglass 1 metre cat twin prop hull called APPARATION ( yes i know HK but didn't wanna spend big bucks if i didn't like it, but a fair bit modded...)with custom water cooled esc's and 2881 brushless motors etc etc.. set up from sunshine boat club, cant wait for the big lipo's.
I was told it should do a 100k's on them and after today i believe it....
Only ran 11.1 25c 2200's today from my blade 400.. couldn't wait for delivery of the right batts, any way any feed back from you boaty's would be appreciated..
I do miss the gasser run times but i have to keep the noise down where i live and i cant rate the i Charger 206 high enough.. Only took 13 mins on a car batt and even faster on my 500watt power supply at home, mind you the power supply does put out up to 20 volts....
Camera operator needs some training....lol
I'm hooked, we all like vids so enjoy.....:thumb:
ps I'll throw another vid up when the big batts arrive... oh and when i said balloon the batts i meant rx... little nervous, didn't wanna swim today!!
There are lots of things that can happen when a boat blows over LD. It depends on a lot of factors.
A nitro or gass engine can lock up and brake a conrod, an electric boat can fry the ESC etc. Most boats these days are pretty well sealed so the chances of something bad happening are reletively slim.
The worst case senerio is the boat will sink to the bottom of the lake. Best case senerio is having to go for a swim to retreive it. Most people put pool noodles inside the hull to stop them sinking.
Being a cat there is so much air at the front it floats vertical.
Also i tape the hatch down so it is completely sealed and being a twin prop there is no need for trim tabs, if you have a look at the vid when i pull it out of the water the rear is meant to sit lower and it was definitely planing bud, it jumps onto the plane even on small batts.
I have had lots of boats tiny and I still recon the boat wasn't up on the plane. It doesn't mean anything that it sits lower at the back when it's stationary, the prop angle and the prop depth decide how the boat rides. The boat should be riding on as little as 5cm of the hull at the rear when trimmed right. As long as your happy mate, that's all that matters. BTW: My last post was directed at LD's post.
Appreciate any advice pc, but i've owned alot of real boats and know the difference between displacement and plane.. It handles so well the way the boys set it up and i dont wanna screw that up.. alot of boats would have flipped with the tight corners i was doing..
Maybe it just needs the recommended batteries which are located up the front and are alot heavier and loads more power??? Just a thought...
Cats look deceiving at how they sit in the water. BUT that is running WAY to wet. I had same problem with my Seducer cat when I was running the motor in. Only get maybe another 7000ish rpm when run in but DAMN it makes a difference. DONT go playing with strut angles until you have the right voltage and batteries in it. You will prolly find it runs very nice.
As for the handling all cats run like that. Mine can just about turn on itself from about 85kmh lol.
I have heard a bit about these boats and they seem to be very quick for the price.
3 days mate, 50c 3s 5000's..... Can't wait, should add a fair bit more weight to the front not to mention the grunt lol. Have it flying soon, only a test on baby batts....
It looks like the nose is slightly high. Angle the props down slightly.
I run my props around 1mm up from the horizontal. I have found this to be a good point for my EKOS. Don't make any changes until your new packs arrive. They will make a huge difference. Here's a vid of mine with the 40 -50c Turnigy's in it. Also hugh rooster tails are lost power.
Hit something in the water and punched a whole in the bottom!!!! Didn't notice till it started doing circles then smoke was coming out of aerial extension..
60 metre swim in ice cold bull shark infested water and no towel...... definitely gonna buy a cheap tug boat lol
Now i need two new esc's and have no idea what sort.. My motors are kv2881's batts are 50c 3s 5000 11.1v .......
Need some help guys im pizzed off masive, esc's were apparently water proof????????????:bang:
How much is a new hull? There may be very little damage to the electrics. Just don't try to use it until you have pulled it down and dried everything very well. Take the battery off straight away, if you havn't done it, do it now. The smoke comming out of the arial may just be from the batteries, due to the fact that the hull was well sealed, smoke could be comming from anywhere inside the hull, through the antenna tube. You may have to leave some of the parts in the sun for a few day's or use a hair drier.
A good forum to get on to is offshoreelectrics. I am a member on there as well. If you post pics of the damage the guys there will offer heaps of good advice. They helped me out heaps with my EKOS when i first got it.
If the hull is fibreglass, then it can be repaired.
A good revovery bot is a small inflatable from Clark Rubber or Kmart for $40 - $50. You can then paddle out to it or a cheap surf ski.
I'm gonna set up one of my fishing rods with a golf ball.. I can cast pretty well then tow it back, can you recommend an esc for my combo... Hole is only small, easy fix..
That sucks mate, did you figure out what you hit? could be one of those killer sharks. But its probobly just me but how the hell are you planning to pull a boat in with a golfball on a fishing rod?, id imagine the golfball smashing the thing to bits.
You cast over it the ball sinks a bit and you real it in.. old trick that i found on another forum.... and i do alot of fishing so no problem, may take a few casts but i can cast well over 100 metres..
Nah! you just toss the ball over the boat a hope for the best! Were there any kids watching? They are like retriever dogs when it comes to RC. lol
So your ESC's are fried? Can I buy them off you? If not, let them dry out really well and try them again. Unless there as obvious damage, like melted plastic or the sides missing off the chips, they could still be a ok. The hull can be repaired and parts are cheap! Get back behind the wheel!
ouch man. no good at all. I nearly lost one of mine in bad currents and fallen tree but it resurfaced. Was not a good feeling and that was approx 1500 worth of boat lol.
I would look at the HK waterproof esc's. Again not totally waterproof but more silicon etc can help
