Hi guys, just wanting to show you my new toy. Heres some more pics and it wont be the FROGS watch either.

This will have 3 5755MG servos, race ported 29cc and a pipe that the Frog recommends.

Looks very impressive and the wheels on this looks huge, almost thesame diameter as the excavators. Will update as stuff goes on it.

Over!

Make sure its worth it dude, a crap pipe can turn out to be an expensive paperweight.

There is a whole forum out there that have tried EVERY MCD pipeon the market.....unless its a secret weapon :spy:

I noticed that when you hit full throttle and the end point adjustment was not right, it puts a lot of pressure on the throttle flipping thing and can cause to wear that lever. So i bent the centre section of the linkage to 90 degree instead of only having a small angle so i can have a rubber fuel line to cushion the servos action.

Second was bending the lever for the brakes so its level with the action of the servo. Just being anal about it, i like things neat.
http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee45/stephoon/photo.jpg

And installed some mesh on the side windows and i have cut out the back section as well and installed some there too. And i cleaned the baja part after part, i got sick of looking at it dirty.

On my RRV4 i have both the throttle and the brake linkages connected to the middle hole on the servo arm, and i found that the throttle pushes all the way on the carby leaver but does not go over... infact you can push it a tiny bit more by hand. But if that works for you then sweet.

Don't worry about being anal, most people are too... but they just don't admit it.

Driven this thing and I must say that I like it! It's like driving my drift car but on dirt. Power of this :spy:29 is pretty impressive. Comes out of a controlled drift all 4 wheels spinning then point and shoot. The length of half a basketball court was not enough for this motor either, seems to rev as hard as my zen 4bolt 23 so it has bit of top end speed.

Car seems to understeer if you put the power on a bit early out of the corner, hopfully changing the rear diff oil might help that.

That's all I can notice driving the MCD and will do a full day testing and feedback as soon as I'm allowed outside again.

BigKev aka The Frog
15-06-2010, 06:44 PM
Well Steph and I took this bad boy for a bash:eek: today and I was fairly impressed..

Power from the motor :spy: is spot on and with the right pipe, will be an absolute weapon..
The car itself is well balanced and no matter how much I tried to upset it, it always landed on its wheels..

Billybob, the ultimate pipe will be coming next week and hope that my motor will be finished then too. But apparently, my motor neededsome work done to it and I wasn't going to argue :D

Here's some of the mods that i've done. Most of it's self explanatory and i thought there was a need for it to be modified and i had time.
Venturi effect i think its called, to keep the motor cool.
http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee45/stephoon/IMG_3921.jpg

Quick release plugs for the pico to the motor and y harness for the transponder.
http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee45/stephoon/IMG_3920.jpg
http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee45/stephoon/IMG_3918.jpg

Changed the fuel line so it has sufficient juice going in the carby.
http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee45/stephoon/IMG_3919.jpg

Then pico kill swith light through the top of the battery box.

I swear this car hates me.

Tested and ran the car in the back yard yesterday and everything was sweet. Turned the car off and electrics and went inside to get something then turned everything on. Waited for the radio to bind and started the car up and white smoke and that unmistakable smell of burning electronics has surfaced. I know what that smells like then hurried to switch the car off.
Low and behold the new throttle servo decided it wanted to bbq itself:bang::bang:
Receiver is fine and so as the other steering servos. What else can go wrong??

Nahh, Homer got nothing to do with this, its all the car. It hates me.

Its either im going back to an analogue servo or futaba. I know futaba aint cheap but pretty reliable. Come to think of it, this thing stops with nearly no pressure on the brakes and Chris and Franco will back me up on this. Dont really need a high speed digital super strong servo for the throttle.

BeatsMe
17-08-2010, 06:45 PM
Mate that is an absolute bugger, you are just having a huge run of bad luck.

In all honesty i have a total lack of brakes, my V4 really does not brake to good at all. Just lucky that we don't need the brakes too much on the track.

stephoon
17-08-2010, 06:51 PM

Well, very happy to reply that it was the other way around this time mate. Won the first heat, second and final. Only bummer was, i lost another servo for the steering and luckily i had 2 so i disconnected the stuffed one and won the race.

Thanks to my competitors for a nice clean race and thanks heaps to Evilair for mounting the camera on my car. The footages that i saw from your incar monitor was sick! The race one would even be better, be interesting to see if i had a clean race on the finals. Crap! i hope you camera is ok too.

Thanks to Mark for helping me run this motor in. It does crack!

Totally different day for you yesterday mate, as usual top driving and taking TQ and a win in the final! How did you find the engine?

stephoon
30-08-2010, 07:55 PM
Thanks Chris, i needed that after the weekend before. Restored my confidence again on the MCD.

The Frog actually found the engine from powerslide:heh:

Motor was super smooth but had the power when you needed it. It didnt have the bottom end that the cracked 29 had though but there wasnt much between them. And that was a race ported one from DDM.

So glad that i did the full service on the MCD because if i didnt, i would have been crying again next round. Where do i start, nearly all the grub screw that held the drive cups were loose. Most of the grub screw that were holding the pins for the dog bones were loose. The screw that held the front diff was both loose and lucky to have 2 turns on both of them before the diffs lunched itself (thats both front and rear). And front right shock shaft is bent but its not that bad.

Now for the good news, the 4 bolt 29 is on and waiting to be run in so it will be ready for the next open day. Hope that this one will give me the bottom end that my car needs.

There is no way to stop the bending / snapping, but ever since i installed a set of Jofer Alloy Spring Retainers (see pic below) i have found that i am not snapping the shafts, although i am still bending them, just not as bad.

The only way to stop bending the shafts is to run baja shocks with phat dad shafts.

BeatsMe

Never actually got around to doing the ball-joint mod or the fuel tube mod as i have not really seen a need for these mod's after installing the alloy retainers.

But if i do one of these mod's i would give the fuel line mod a go 1st.

I think he meant to replace the shocks completely, just don't see that they would fit too good with the stock towers and arms.

ok cool i thought i saw on another forum that you moded your A arms to fit the bottom ball joints

i am also tossing up on whether i just make a set of proper hardened shafts form them

yeah i imagined using the complete shock but you would have to use the fork in some way also to clear the drive shaft too right ?

sorry i am a noob when it comes to this stuff

You did see a picture of mine on the MCD Forum, where i modified the front lower arm to include a evo3 ball-joint. The arm that i modified was just one of my damaged ones, and as yet i have not done it to the current ones i'm running now... although the current arms are now very worn so i should consider doing one of the two mod's, it's just that i am not intending on pulling the front apart just yet.

I really don't think that a HPI shock and a MCD fork will work, I don't think that the HPI shock as a threaded end for the fork ?? Not sure about that one. But also the HPI shock will be way to long and would not fit correctly on the stock MCD tower and arms.

Rels_au
12-04-2011, 10:58 PM
I want to try some different wheels as where we have been running is very hard and rocky, and it is taking the tread off the standard wheels that came with the mcd. I'll save the mcd wheels for running on a soft surface.

I had the same thing happen to the plastic gear carrier on mine too, replaced with the alloy one, not cheap hey. I was lucky and was just warming her up when it happened and didnt damage the gears. I slapped some greese in the bearings before even fitting the new one. Did you ever get a run with the trenchers on? I had them fitted up to try out and the gear carrier gave out within a min, havent had her out to give it a propper run yet...

Havnt ran the trenchers on them because they're pretty heavy. Motor might struggle with the gearing and the trenchers are pretty soft so it might work with the shock setup I have as well.

Haha Billybob, it's a new green earthy design to save our planet. Lol!

Lol Chris, should come with me to eastern creek and have fun on the skid pan. An R8 like yours turned up and was pretty interesting.

Hey Steph,

I have 2 pull cords that one of the Americans has sent over, your welcome to one of them

Highly recommeded

So far 50+ pull
10 + tanks of gas
Sand terrain

No sign of wear
I might be wrong, but is it a bit short than stock (length)?

these cords break at 550 lbs there a 7 strand core with a cloth jacket to prevent wear on the core. All other pull start cords i have seen and used many types but none like this

stephoon
24-10-2011, 10:16 PM
Thanks boys but I do have spares. The knot on the pull start handle came apart and the line disappeared in the enclosure. Fixed that now but I did replace the chord on the MCD motor with a thicker one so that won't break any time soon.
