: Lipo in Electrafun-Will ESC die??

04-07-2008, 11:33 AM

While learning to fly my Helis, i dicided get a simple plank to get my "Air Fix":D

Grabbed an Electafun. Great little plane but the standard battery is woefull:mad:

My local store is out of appropriate Nicad/Nimh for the time being but i have a few spare lil 800mah 2cell 7.4 Lipos..

Will this toast the Electrafun ESC?? I'm no expert on Lipo stuff as yet but this idea seems safe.. Is it?

Thanx for any info - Maxih:thumb:

What voltage nimh does it use as standard ?? 5 cell is 6V , , 6 cell is 7.2V , no worries with a lipo there , any more cells as std and the lipo Voltage wont be enuff ...

Peter. Thanx for the reply.:)

I realise the info above was a bit vague. The Electrafun came with a 8.4V 600mah Nicad (Why bother??) Flies around nicely but i want a little more Oomph on tap..

Am now tossing up which direction to go in-

Nimh- Anyone know where i can source some humpback 7cell Nimh? (1400+)

Lipo- Would any of these combos be appropriate??

Already have a couple of 2S packs around and am thinking of getting some 3S if needed...

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction. - Maxih

I'd think any of the first 5-6 of those combo's would be great , especially on a 3S lipo pack . but I'd email them , telling em what plane you have, to make sure....

Those prices are almost throwaway !!

I grabbed one of their 18A combos and gave it a go.. Shifts along quite nicely with a 2C pack & almost tears the wings off with 3C.. Good fun...You're right, their prices are awesome. Few of the guys around here are ordering stuff from there now. Alot of foamies running their setups around here now.

Using the Electrafun for FUN while i build up my Yardbird YB-22. Now that's going to be FUN.

F-22 eh?

looks like some fun ;)
if you don't mind me asking..how much would a decent setup in one of those cost?
i was looking at some ducted fan F-22's, but for the cost of a baja and DX3R, i'm not too sure :p

Sorry for the late reply..

I had a few bits already but the combo package would be about $200 to your door i spose. Then just add a rx to suit your radio(AR6100 in my case-$80) and you're pretty much ready to go.. You'll need Foam safe glue of some kind & some strengthening tape is never a bad idea.

Kit is great with very clear instructions. Had mine built in 2 nights, now just waiting for the motor/esc to arrive an i'm ready to go..

Here's mine minus the motor and esc.. Pilot is hand drawn (so to speak)

wow, that foam construction looks heaps simple, does that comprimise its flying ability for strength at all?

Haven't flown mine as yet so i can't accurately say.

The fuselage is double layered so that provides added strength. Once put together, all the components seem to give it a fair amount of strength. While still quite light it feels like it has a decent amount of rigidity. (My less-than-expert opinion mind u):p

While it is a simple profile that you could replicate on your own, i'm quite happy to pay the $$ for the thought thats gone into it. Some guys insist its cheating but i think its a great idea & awesome package:thumb:
