So I have bought my first rc boat from rc hobbies and am waiting for it to arrive. I didn't want to spend too much money so I just bought a CEN Grey Thunder (nitro) KIT (the kit version basically comes without radio gear). I went with the nitro version because just like with my nitro cars, electric doesn't appeal to me at all.
Is there anyone who has driven one of these boats before, I have only read one magazine review which was positive but I would like to know the opinions of people who have driven them.
Also are there any tips experianced boaters can give me, things like the best way to retrive the boat if it runs out of fuel etc...
yeah mate i had a leopard it was 1.2 metres long cost 3 grand all up,1500 for the boat and 1500 to get it built with radio an giant servos,it had a 26cc inboard stupid fast when it was trimmed out it would throw a rooster tale 4 metres behind it and 2 foot high,it was supposed to do 100kmh but it was more like 80,but at 1.2 metres long it looked like it was doin 200:thumb:. Boats are great if u have 1 2 chase it,but when it takes off and your standing on the bank like an idiot with the controller in hand,i had a little brother inlaw that would swim for it but he got sick of that pretty quick. My girlfriend had to swim about 300m to get it 1 day,so after that i sold it lol.get a 1:1 scale boat champ.
otherwise get the budgie smugglers out an swim chief
That's funny, I think I'll go for the boardies over the budgie smugglers. When I can afford a nice 1:1 boat I will buy one but that will be later on down the track.
The boat I have bought is only worth $400. Not much considering that is the total cost to get it in the water. Hopefully a failsafe should prevent run aways, I might have to crack out the fishing rod to try and reel it in if it stops in the water, or I could swim for it I guess.
if u go down to a hardware store and buy some thin PVC pipe, glue it together and make a U shape. but a cheap electric boat of ebay $50 thats with postage and attach the PVC 'U' to the front of it, if needs be put some foam on the front on the pipe ends to help counter balance the weight. manouver the boat around the subject so as to capture it then slowly bring it back to shore. You can do it length ways or width ways, i find width is better but u must go slower.
That's a great idea. I can justify spending money on a cheap electric boat to prevent me jumping in the water after it. Have yiu done this yourself tim? If you have can you post a picture so I can see how the pvc attaches to the electric boat.
Thanks
