RC8Te Question

Hi All,

Just got my hands on a RC8Te for my bday... from the wife....

After putting it togeather and installing my Losi 2100Kv combo i've hit alittle snag.

Currently its running 2 x 2c Venom 4000 in parallel. Every time i pull the throttle it just seems to struggle. Motor just makes this weird noise. If i ease into the throttle, it works abit better but not what you would say perfect. Then it cuts out once i get close to full throttle

I thought it was my gear mesh but i pulled the pinion off to test the motor and it still does it.

My only other thought is it could be the batterys. They are only 20c, but losi recommand 25c. Am i on the right train of thought here??

Thanks for the help

so i should aim for 25c plus?? ideally 30c

Would it be better/Cheaper to get 2 x 2 cells, or 1 x4, or 1 x 5 cell??

20c 4000 mah should be fine = 80 amps constanst, in parallel the 2x batteries would share the load, each only needing to discharge 10 to 15c Is the motor and speedy new or second hand????I'd be checking the speedy set-up and all the connections, check that the esc is set to low start up....if not new maybe motor toasted !!!!

I agree with snap off as you must factor in a 20% error in the manufacturers quoted figures. Like anything, there is variations in quality control and not all batteries of the same capacity are created equal so your 4000 20c aren't going to give you any room for load variations by the ESC and the batteries. Grab yourself a set of 5000 mAh 30C units of a reputable brand and you should be good to go.

after browsing around the net a few people suggest the ESC needs to be Update, so i downloaded he new update. When i did that it changed a few of the default settings.

Like now the initial acceleration is set to HIGH as a default. Left it at that

After the update i gave it a crack and it seems to work fine. No cogging sounds. Pull the throttle and it lights up.

Just need to get some tire to give it a true test.

20c 4000ma is not 80amp constant, thats 80peak/or burst, and is not enough current to push around an RC8Te if you want your batteries to last more than a couple of cycles.Continuos is like 80% of Ma rating x (C) rating, so your batteries are only 65amp continuos Ideally you want a battery that can supply 100amp continuos 150amp peak. 30c 5000ma is 150amp burst or 130 amp continuos approx. Dont run anything less than that. Smaller batteries will do the job but just wont have the punch to clear a set of tripples or supply enough current to run a 15 min race without making your batteries go puffy.

So I'm looking at grabbing some new lipo's.

Should I go 2 2 cells. 1 4cell or 1 5 cell. My esc can handle up to 5.

Any suggestions anyone?

That depends on if you want to use them in anything else or just use em in the truggy and also how fast you want to go.

I would look at getting a 4 cell, if your ESC can run 5 cells, staying just under it's maximum capacity will offer a little more protection for the ESC, there are some good quality 4s 5000mah available locally, just make sure they are designed for use in road/offroad application

There are a few out there that are designed for flight use and dont take the bumping around that offroad will do to it, we saw this at the track 2 weeks ago, one of the guys running 4s flight lipos, had a couple puff up after only 1 or 2 runs

If you use your batteries for more than one model, grab a pair of 2s lipos with a C Rating of 30 or higher, the difference is unbelievable, Snap Off can testify to that.

in that case grab a 4s 5000mah single cell, it will be easier to work with and you wont have to worry about the batteries bumping and rubbing on each other.

I think they are Turnigy Brand, they are Blue if that helps, I need to check the one I have to be sure and will do when I get home to the shed, another guy from one of the clubs I race at, bought 3 x4s Lipos from another hobby store, they were $300 each and puffed up within a few minutes running, the store advised him they were "Flight" Batteries, apparently there is a difference (I didnt know that) I thought a lipo was a lipo. For sure I am very conscious when I install Lipos now and ensure they are padded well to prevent them getting knocked about
