New to crawling, with Venom creeper

Hello LAds, got myself a venom Creeper, just got the base kit and diff lockout setup, I wanting to look into brushless setup for it, so any info on which way to head would be nice, and some sweet set up tips.

Cheers Tappet

Congrats on your purchase.

I run a Novak Goat crawler 21.5 brushless in my wheely king crawler & love it. Good wheel speed & control.

What are the advantages of a brushless setup on a crawler. im sure you get all the power you need from a massive brushed motor?

With the sensored brushless i have found that it is smother & has a wider speed range which comes in handy at times. It also has more power than a brushed motor & no maintanence. During crawling i get around 1hr run time per 1000Ma. So with a 5000 Mah pack that i run i get around 5hrs straight crawling.

Wow 5 hrs, what servos for the Steering should I put on it? grunt wise? I have got the remote diff locker kit for it, and a few other bits like the CkRCS suspension kit, being new to the scene and not knowing what to use and read good reviews about it, I grabbed it. I'm going to mod the diff lockers, ie, fit the servos down low, but still need to build it and see what she looks like first and how it all works. I am alos looking at changing it to behind the axel steering to protect it all a tad more, and may even make it 4x4x4. I'm keen for a Dig kit on it one day, but will get some steel diff cases first as I reckon a fair bit of load will be on em.

First step is to build it and get the bits, then see how she goes and learn what does what and how they affect handling. Then look at reliability and go from there.

I got a Hyperion DS20-FMD a while back, brilliant servo for the money (about $52 now), I kinda have a review of it down in the servo section of this forum.

I am using Hitec 9kg servo's front & back. The reason for such long run times is that during crawling you are only using a small amount of throttle input.

Cool, so the 9kg is plenty of grunt?

For a 2.2 I have found them good enough. I can have the whole car sitting on 1 tyre & still turn it. Plus they are cheap.

Some guys i know are using 24kg servo's on theirs but they are around the $200 each.

Cool, I finnaly pulled mine outa the box, the CRC kit came with a heap of weights, front and rear springs, links, and a few other bits that i'm not sure off. How much weight in the wheels is a good starting point?

I used mag wheel weights from a tyre fitter shop.....approx 11/2 strips per wheel....front & rear.
