i wanted to buy a mt for the same reason, so that i can have it offroad and on. just put some onroad tyres, adjust the shockers and you'd have urself a decent on road basher, i saw a guy do that once at KROMA, it looked awesoem coz it was so fat hehe
if you look at the rs4 rally by hpi i think thats a 1:8 and you could get tyres off it and a body
cheers thanx for the replie's...all i want to change is ,onroad tires on buggy rims and decent smaller length shocks ,so i can get rid of the tall shocktowers...the rest will stay the same...i like the lowdown buggy look....its just for fun and cause the violator has a good wide stance(330mm)should hang on alright...
You could try using some fuel tube inside the shock to limit the travel? its cheap to do that, I used some losi shocks on my menace, at first I tried the long shocks, but ended up using the short shafts with the long bodies, best bet is probably just get some shocks off any on-road car.
Having an on-road buggy would be kinda like those super motard dirt bikes, off roaders with slick tyres, they race on ashphalt and dirt, best of both worlds.
Nah I meant internal limiters, IE the fuel tube goes inside the shock body, effectively lowering the vehicle, it works a treat EXACTLY the same as having shorter shocks, except its free, very common mod done to lower savages, works fine.
i know exactly what you mean,,but i wanna get rid of the shock tower hights..so on road shocks and some towers to suit would be my go...tires are no probs, just wondered if somone had some on road tires to fit buggy rims...thanx for the advice tho
Rollovers? Bah! doesn't happen with a buggy on hard surfaces (much)
I bought some on-road tyres from Macs RC on ebay a couple of years ago, they last forever and gave the on-road look.
Sin Yih have a 1/8 WRX on-road car and you can buy the wheels with foams fitted! My LHS had them for $35 a pair and the grip is much better than the rubber. Life expectancy is much shorter though.
With my buggy (GV Rex-x) there's some "lowering" grub screws in the lower suspension arms. All I had to do was screw these out and they would push against the chassis. How much of the grub screw protruded below the suspension arm affected how low the ride height was.
If your buggy can do the same, then that's your cheapest option - even easier than fuel tube inside the shock body.
For bodies, I heard of a hobby shop in Lithgow selling 1/8 scale on-road bodies for about $40 each a while back. I was racing against a guy who also had a Rex-x and he had a dodge viper body on it - it does look awesome with an on-road body on a 1/8 buggy!
If you want the best handling though, a soft suspension setup works very well, but it's not as much fun as a lowered and powersliding monster! Set it up right and you can go round corners very sideways and have a blast!
Check out my website for some pics of the on-road tyres and lowered buggy.
ok just got new road rage tires and lowered the violator ..just need a new motor for the hyper 8 and the little .21 8 port is goin it this...once the motor is in i will adjust the suspention again to take the weight ...
that's a cool idea. i was talking to a bloke at dandy rc track about 6 months ago and he appeared to be running a 1/8 buggy converted to onroad. you should put a 2 speed in and get a panam body and race it at lilydale in 1/8 onroad for a laugh!
you can get it in 200mm, thats what i seen on a nitro rustler.
yes, WB for wide body (280mm instead of 200)
not sure which one would fit a bug better, but i think the escudo body, with your buggy's wing would look real slick if you can get it to fit properly.
might need to wangle up a set of body mounts since bugs only have one front/rear.
