    AUSRC.COM v3 - GOES LIVE!!

Well, after quite a few weeks of testing, and a long night on the migration of the production server, I am proud to announce the official launch of AUSRC.COM v3. The site is now hosted on vBulletin 4 which is probably one of the most robust and well support community platforms available.

So, what new features are available to our members:
    • A new look
    • All members now have access to a personal Blog
    • A new and improved iTrader system
    • A Chatroom
    Just to name a few.

In the next week we will launch the Subscriptions, and we will be updating badges to recognise all of the members that have contributed in the past. Subscriptions will not only include additional forum features (like access to groups and albums), but they will also come with merchandise from the AUSRC.COM shop whih is soon to be launched.

Clubs can benefit from the new Group features, and will now be able to control their own memberships to the Clubs "Private" group area. Some of this final setup is still to take place, and I will be discussing this with the various club leaders over the next few days.

One of the biggest tasks we have undertaken is the re-writing of the AUSRC.COM rules, and an expansion of the member infraction system. Everyone will be required to read, and agree to the rules before they are permitted to post. I encourage you to read the rules carefully. We have made what I consider to be some significant changes in the area of "Informational Links and Content". I think this should allow for a far greater level of information exchange within our community.

I would like to thank the members of the test team for their time to date. By no means do I think we have everything 100% right... but in the interest of getting the community back on line, I will work through any issues that arise over the next few weeks. Please post bugs or feedback into the "AUSRC.COM v3 - Bugs and Feedback" thread for actioning.

    A few things to note:
    • Embedded Video - the new vBulletin system has "broken" the way that video embedding used to work. As such any exisiting threads containing video content will now appear as links. If it is your thread, you can edit it, use the "Post Video" button to re-post the link, and it will come good. The Moderating team (if time permits) will also fix videos as we come across them.
    • Chatbox - I have left the chatbox on quiet a few pages, so let's see how it performs. If you prefer, you can click on the "Chatbox Full" link in the Navbar and keep it open, full screen, in a seperate tab.
    • The layout is different, so please take some time to look around. Use the chatbox if you are not sure, and hopefully some of the guys that have been playing with this version will be around to help you out.
I don't expect everything to be perfect, so please speak up if you see something strange.

But most importantly... enjoy the new functionality, and let's take the next step in consolidating AUSRC.COM as Australia's premier R/C community.

    Regards,
    Chris.

It's a great day out at the Model Park

"PRIZES ARE LISTED FOR ALL CLASSES BELOW"

The Sydney Society of Model Engineers Baja Racing section would like to present the Powerslide Racing Challenge.

This is our new race series that will commence on the 27th of June and run for 5 months with racing taking place on each open day held at the model park.

The exact dates are as follows,

    Sunday 27th of June

    Sunday 25th of July

    Sunday 29th of August

    Sunday 26th of Sept

    Sunday 31st of Oct

The Model Park is located at 869 Luddenham Road, Luddenham and the hours of operation are 9 am until 5 pm on the listed open days only.

Mike from Powerslide Racing has very generously offered to sponsor this race series and there will be prizes for all categories, the prizes will be announced in due course.

This season we are expanding on our format to include 2 more categories, the Intermediate class and the 4x4 class; previously we had Novice and Open so please have a read of the following class descriptions.

    Novice Class
The Novice class is aimed at the first time racer or the new 1/5th owner that has just purchased a vehicle and wants to get started.
The vehicles will need to be stock basically straight out of the box, no modifications to engine or exhaust.
They must of course have the compulsory Pico style kill switch installed and a 2.4 GHz Radio with no exceptions.

    Intermediate Class
The Intermediate class is aimed at the competitor that may have raced one season in the beginner class and they want to step up, its also aimed at the driver who is improving but is not yet confident to step up to the Open class.
Restrictions for this class are none in regards to motor or car mods but they MUST run a stock style exhaust; eg stock 5b or 5t can or X can, no other pipes comply with this class.

    Open 2wd Class
This is the Baja racers class; there are no restrictions to engine pipe or vehicle.
Obviously everything must be safe of course but its open season for suspension and tires as well.

    4x4 Class
This is the newest class and it will accommodate the growing trend with the 4x4 vehicles. There are no restrictions to these vehicles just like the Open class.

The SSME Baja Racing section has a strict and un negotiable policy that states that all vehicles must be fitted with 2.4Ghz radio equipment and they must also have a remote kill switch fitted to there vehicle.

These are commonly known as a Pico switch and they will stop the engine running in the event of a radio or receiver problem.

The entire current member base at the model park are compliant with these rules but in saying that, this race series will be open to new comers as we are keen to expand the membership.
Please note that we don’t have Pico switches available at the track but we can guide you in the right direction if required.

We welcome everyone to come along and experience the park and the racing with the standard rule of 3 visits then you become a member, you will be required to sign a visitors book and complete a brief induction before being allowed to operate a vehicle.

The point structure we have in place is the same for all categories; the classes do not over lap and there will be not changing of classes during the season, the class you start in is the class you finish in.

Points will be awarded in the finals only, the heats will act as the qualifying rounds and the top 8 qualifiers become the entrants for the final in each heat.
In the event that a competitor who qualified for the final cannot start on the day we will bump up the 9th qualifier so we have a full grid.

The grid will be a Lemans style with the cars backing on to the pit wall at an angle of 45 degrees to the first corner setup from fastest to slowest running back from the start line.

The DNF rule does not apply in our form of racing, as long as you present and start the final you will receive points for your finishing position regardless of where you may have come.
The points will be awarded correctly based on the information taken from race control.

The points score is as follows,

    1st - 25 points
    2nd - 20 points
    3rd - 16 points
    4th - 13 points
    5th - 11 points
    6th - 9 points
    7th - 7 points
    8th - 5 points

On any given race day if we don’t have enough starters for separate heats for each class we will combine the Novice and Intermediate contenders together, we may run up to 12 cars as at a maximum and the finishing order will be taken from 1st place down for each class.
The same will apply for the Open and 4x4 class until we have enough members for a full grid in each heat.

Example: You may have 6 Novice and 6 Intermediate in one Final and a Novice driver comes 3rd overall he will actually be placed first in his class and get the full points accordingly.

    Race Fees

Yes we do have race fees and they are $15.00 for SSME Members and $25.00 for Visitors, note the visitors will also have park entry of $15.00 to pay for so you can see the advantage in becoming a member ASAP.

Once again please come along and get involved we have a fantastic time and everyone is extremely friendly and helpful.

Prizes for the Powerslide Challenge will be in the form of store credit, we will arrange a unique redemption code for all recipients so there will be no chance of fraudulent claims being made.

    The prizes are as follows,

    Novice Class
    1st Place - $150
    2nd Place - $100
    3rd Place - $70

    Intermediate Class
    1st Place - $250
    2nd Place - $150
    3rd Place - $100

    Open 2wd Class
    1st Place - $400

    Open 4x4 Class
    1st Place - $400
    2nd Place - $275
    3rd Place - $175

Once again I would like to thank Mike and Powerslide Racing for their support and generosity ..

    Cheers

    Dean

    1. Sponsors

AUSRC.COM would like everyone to join with me in welcoming SPXRacing.com as our latest sponsor.

I have been in discussions with Justin Derry (AUSRC Forum Member - jderry) over the past few weeks, and I would have to say I think he will bring alot to the community.

While I invite Justin to introduce himself, I can confirm a few details.

    Address:
    SPXRacing (Speed Xtreme Racing)
    Showroom 9
    14-28 Ivan Street
    Arundel, Queensland, 4214
    Australia

    Phone: +61 (7) 5602 6281
    Fax: 61 (7) 5537 1467

Their online store is can be found at http://www.spxracing.com.

As with all of our Sponsors, they have their on section on the forum that can be found here: http://www.ausrc.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=113

Justin has asked me to let everyone know that they are a little behind in the product list, so they only have about 800 products in the system with quantities and pricing still going in. This will happen over the next two days, but there is already alot of products in the system, and everyone will see that they mean business (price wise). They believe that they should be nearly the cheapest in AU and also extremely competitive across the globe.

Additionally, they will be covering every single car they sell with every part, most of which should be in the system by Saturday.

They are also offering anyone who registers with the site in the next 24 hours an immediate upgrade to GOLD status. This means that all the AUSRC members will immediately get up to 10% additional discount (up to as some prices are already extremely cheap and user’s may only get 5% on some items). You will however need to email info@spxracing.com with your username that you used to register, and tell them you are an AUSRC member. This way, anyone who registers will get immediate loyalty and can go back online and get the immediate discounts whilst they are shopping. (you have to be logged in while shopping to see the different prices/discounts)

There is over 200 car kits now in the warehouse with so much parts, and Justin says it’s a little tricky to get them in. They are extremely excited to be a part of the AUSRC group and going forward wish to support the forum and industry as much as they can.

They think they have most of the bugs out of the system (it’s completely custom built as they don’t use open source software), and they integrate directly with the banks for processing. They take Credit cards (pretty well everything) as well as paypal, direct deposit, local pickup etc..

They are online and in production so they can start taking orders immediately.

So as I say, lets welcome them aboard, and hopefully Justin can jump on and give further introductions.

    Regards,
    Chris.
